Had to buy a new welder....

I took a job to weld up some hand rails,it was all in place and tacked together.I have a Lincoln 180 and a generator to run it.Well had a generator....I had it chained up at work but over the weekend someone cut the chain and stole itOk I have lots of 220 cord that I could tie into the elec.panel but it being a new building the GC didn't want me doing that.So I go to HomeDepo to either get a 110 welder or another generator,ended up getting the Lincoln 140.So I got the job done and just about broke even minus my labor but now have a 110 welder.
Reply:Good luck with that lincoln, I kinda did the same thing, was on a job and my 110 welder went out , had to go to HD and bought a new lincoln 140 to finish. After that job I have had nothing but problems . first the roller assembly went out, took it to a dealer to have it repaired and they  said the machine was three years old and not under warranty,even with the reciept. Not wanting to make a big deal out of it I paid the bill (only 35.00) labor, they did not charge me for parts because they know me there. Then started having problems with the feeder feeding the wire, like it didnt have the power, took the lincoln back to dealer for repairs with reciept, but seems that when HD boxed up my welder they put the wrong one in the wrong box , so my reciept doesent match my welder which is three years old and out of warranty even though I have only had it 6 months. Went to my dealer and bought a new miller 140 and now have a pretty lincoln sittin on the shelf that doesent work at all. will probably get it fixed and try to sell it, but who has time to do this crap. Never buy welders at Home Depot. they are not the same as the ones you get at a dealer and you get no service. I knew this, but was in a fix and had to. but will never again.BTS Welding
Reply:Home depot does not warranty this item?  You might just try and take it back to them if you have not already.  I know with a lot of stuff they have a full 1 year warranty.Most people dont know this but they actually have a 1 year warranty on plants!  You can buy something take it home, not water it and when it dies just bring it back.  I know this because the family business is greenhouses and we have sold things to them when in a pinch, and they always end up wanting credit for stuff in the store that A)their employees did not take proper care of or B) Plants that people took home and then killed.

Reply:i bought my hobart 120 at fleet farm 4 yrs ago and shes still turnin and burnin she doesnt get much use now that i use my maxstarmiller maxstar 150   hobart handler 210 w mig conversion hobart 250 arc force plasma cutter    boston ind cutting torch miller performance auto darkening helmet milwalkee 14in chop saw 10,000 watt generator huge drill press and industrial band saw
Reply:I'm not sure, but I thought home depot only warranted the welders for 90 days, I will ck on that. I did have a lincoln 100 before this one from home depot for nine years before it died, but the new ones are junk all the wire drive parts are plastic even the part that the roller turns on. The lincolns at the welding suppliers seem to be a bit beefier. Shoot. even if they do warranty them for a year, since they put it in the wrong box the welder dosent even match the reciept. Mostly i'm just p'd because of the reciept issue and at myself for not noticing....but I still will never buy a welder from home depot, I would rather pay more and go to my local welder supply where they know me and no questions will be asked.BTS Welding
