Hi all - I've been reading here for quite a while and learning quite a bit.  I guess it's about time I posted something.I'm not a professional welder like some of you guys, but I do get to do a fair bit at the shop sometimes.  Here's a pic of an intercooler mount that I fabricated the other day.  The Z-shaped strut mount is my bit.   This is on a supercharged Porsche 993 our shop built for a customer. I turned some spools on my lathe, some of them threaded and the others clearance drilled.  Welded the threaded ones to the intercooler, milled flats and drilled for mount bolts and drilled/threaded the end of the piece mounted to the a/c compressor, then connected the spools with 1/2" alum rod.All done in a hurry of course - "it's gotta leave tonight..."Michael Attached Images

Reply:Yup - everything's always gotta be done yesterday.  Thanks for the kudos on the work guys.We do both cars and motorcycles, everything from maintenance through engine building and fabrication, focusing on high end stuff as much as possible.  On this intercooler we only had time for me to do one side before it had to leave for a "Porsches on the Pier" event.  Alex the owner of the shop did the left side bracket in steel while I was doing this side in aluminum.  The car will be back soon for me to duplicate my work on the other side since it turned out so nice.     Of course now every one's going to want one of my custom brackets... This car's a longstanding project.  We're on about the fourth iteration since putting the supercharger on to begin with three or four years ago.  This new intercooler is huge and barely fits under the wing.  I propped it up in place with cardboard and tape, and fabb'ed the mount in place.  Cut, file, tack, bend, retack, bend etc.  I mostly finished welding it still attached to the intercooler but out of the car.I've had bike racers pick up race bikes with freshly built engines right off the dyno, still baking hot from break-in runs, head to the track, crash them in practice (Saturday), bring it back with the cylinders full of rocks saturday afternoon because I can't convince them to run air filters, and expect a running bike to race on Sunday.Sheesh - all that careful work gone in two minutes of happy throttle hand.Several times I've stayed late, gotten it apart and back together through some form of miracle that I didn't need anything I didn't have, rewelded broken subframes etc, and had them crash it again on Sunday, filling it back up with rocks. Some people's kids....Michael
