Vic. vts400d reg. rebuild kits.

Had my mid. size ox.tank refilled ($90.00) put my vts400d reg. on and blew O-ring on purge valve after 20sec. (no parts available in Hawaii) put similar O-ring on that stopped the blow by. I started a flame again and blew the OLD ox. hose in 15sec. Put on a new ox.hose and it blew in 20sec. Had the reg. rebuilt 6yrs ago. So ? #1 What's the max. psi. for the ox. tank. #2 Where can I get a rebuild kit. #3 Can I rebuild it myself? I am mechanically inclined. And #4 What the Hells happening? Thanks

Reply:First of all thanks for the info! I have flash back resistors on both lines ox.& acy. I have been looking all over for this VTS400D model and I believe that it's almost obsolete because no one has one - not even on Ebay. So the rebuild kits with all the right parts may be hard to find, I have the same problem with my old 6volt Panhead HD. Thanks again
Reply:Flash back arrestors will do nothing if you contaminate the reg. All the components are there inside the reg already. You have the Oxygen, The heat can come just from the compression of the gas as it rushes into the reg and stops at the HP seat, The fuel comes from the contaminants or even the material of the reg itself. All you need is something that will ignite at a low enough heat at the pressure that exists..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:The VTS400D is a two stage regulator.  From the problem you stated, it sound like both seats have failed.  The safety on a two stage regulator will only vent if the first stage seat fails.  The delivery pressure which climbed to blow your hose, is the result of a second stage seat failure.  Victor no longer supports the VTS400 with parts.  Some of the parts are available from aftermarket suppliers. I do sell a repair kit for the VTS400.  However, if I were you, I would replace the regulator with a good qualitity single stage regulator.  The only advantage of using a two stage regulator is the  constent delivery pressure as the cylinder empties.   Hope that helps.OAdoctorwww.regulatortorchrepair.com
Reply:I don't use my tank very much, but I am doing body work on my old 1971 bronco so it's just tack and weld with my little 110 mig and bend metal. Work went Ka-pootz out here on the big island of Hawaii and I can't invest much, so rebuilding this may be the way to go for now. Can you give me a price on the kit or you rebuilding it until I can afford a new one?
Reply:Also- can you give me an idea of what kind of reg. I would want to get for automotive and art work. I don't think I would cut anything bigger then 3/8 inch and most of my work would just be bench work.Thanks
Reply:I'd Ebay the 400. Some folks like those for whatever reason, and it would be a few bucks towards a new regulator.
