I need to fine a cross section method or instruction book. I want to be able to document how to cross section a weld joint (destructive test) to measure weld penetration. Any suggestions?
Reply:ASME Section IX QW-183 and 184 go into the macro etch testing procedure and requirements. It's pretty basic. Cut your cross section, progressively polish, etch with HCl or suitable solution, and hold against the applicable criteria depending on whether it's a procedure or performance qualification. If you want to measure depth numerically beyond what you can see with the naked eye, they do have magnifiers with indicator marks available. |
