I blew my vts400d ox reg. (not worth rebuilding)(so said) So for $90.00 can get a complete (fits victor) torch kit, it has every thing but the tanks, 30piece set. The Harris set is $10.00less but will it fit to my victor accessories? Has anyone ever used these kits before? Or I can get a Vic.450 ox. rebuilt reg. for $100.00? I also have to remember that my axetylene reg. is as old as the vts400d that blew and too is obsolete.  The Ebay kit has a warranty for 90 days but I am thinking it's more like the 5-5-2 warranty,That's Five Feet, Five Minutes and if it breaks you get to keep both pieces! I'm all ears!

Reply:If you are not in a hurry, I would keep an eye out for a good used set on ebay or CL. Earlier in the year I got a set of Smith 1500 series regs, a 21" Smith cutting torch, new & used tips, and a brand new in the package 50'X1/4" hose, all for about $150.00. All new that would cost upwards of $600.00.Also, in the past on demolition jobs, we would purchase the torch kits from Harbor Freight, mainly for the regs. They really get abused on the job so it's useless to buy quality stuff. We do however use the Smith torches. I can't say anything bad about the HF kits. However, I use Harris Pro series regs in the shop and the Smith regs on the truck.Just my $.02"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"

Reply:I can fix most anything - I've had the same old 1963 panhead HD for the last 40 years and never go to a dealer. I've always been poor from moving so much and have owned over a 100 cars, trucks, vans and motorcycles and repaired them myself. I work as a handyman and repair anything in and outside a house. So I would say that I am mechanically inclined but I do take advice well. Thanks for everyones concern.

Reply:I do not have to look at the $90.00 outfit to know it is not any good.  We get regulators and torch that look like a Victor or Harris, but can not repaired because the internal parts are not the same.  The little Victor torch copies are the really bad.  CA1350)The mixer usually burns up and you are stuck with another donation to the brass pile. There are alot Victor "style" equipment out there that are copies, of copies, of copies, of Victor.  Stick with a real Victor, Smith or Harris.  See if you can find a used set or just spend a little more and get something that will last.  Smith has a good set (Not thier Lifetime Warranty Equipment) that sells for about $185.00 has a 3 year warranty.I sell a Victor Journeyman SR450/SR460 and CA2460/315C remanufactured for $195.00.Hope this info helps.JimOAdoctorwww.regulatortorchrepair.com
Reply:That price is slightly under what my local LWS charges total to rebuild the same four components. It's a good deal. I prefer that specific Victor outfit because they are well made, tough, and no problem to have fixed.I have rebuild some  of my own regulators (partially due to OADoctors useful posts), but for the piddling difference it really isn't worth my time to clean all the parts. I've opened VTS regulators, and if it were clean I might chuck a kit into it (easier than doing a simple Tillotson or S&S carb, to use a Harley analogy) but "oxygen clean" is VERY clean.
