I have found a Miller 250 AC/DC powersource welder locally for around 400 bucks. My ultimate goal is to have something I can TIG weld with and what would I guy need to do that I guess? I hear that a liquid torch cooler is nice as well would that be something that could be added to this 250 AC/DC?TIA! ShowMeGuy
Reply:Not all power is supplied the same. You will need a Constant Current power source. (Which is what you found.) One that is meant as a tig machine is easier to set up, and they will have the better features. For instance, a "high frequency start function", is a definite asset. A machine designed for "stick welding" probably won't have that feature built-in.A Constant Potential power source will not work at all. Those are for wire fed processes.City of L.A. Reply:Is your machine a Dialarc 250?This machine will tig weld with scratch start. You just need an argon bottle, regulator/flow meter and a gas cooled torch with a gas valve on it. Your limited to tig welding steel and stainless steel with this set up...no aluminum.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:Tozzi dis a good thread on his basic tig rig that would work with your machine.http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...&highlight=tigYou'd only get DC tig as said above with that setup, so no alum..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:There are quite a few different Miller manufactured 250 amp AC/DC output power sources. My Bobcat 250NT is a 250 amp AC/DC gasoline self generating power source and my Dialarc HF is also a 250 amp AC/DC output 220v single phase power source. Thunderbolt stick welders come in 250 amp AC/DC output as well, I believe. These 3 units are vastly different from each other. So, exactly which 250 amp AC/DC output Miller power source do you have???MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op |
