Needed some "ears" welded on a heavy wall tube..Heres how to keep them straight while welding to round surfaces..First grind where they are going on both sides then acetone the area..Figure out the centerline (2 1/2")..Then subtract 1/2 the thickness of the piece to be added..(1/4")That = out to be a 2 1/4" spacer..Clamp the tube down and then clamp the pieces to the spacer..Tack the sides first..Then the top..After that rotate the tube 180 and do it again..Use the same size spacer on the opposite side to keep it in line..Then..Start the weld on the top tack and dont stop on the corner.. Continued.....zap!Last edited by zapster; 08-31-2007 at 03:50 PM.I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

Reply:Now you continue the weld onto the side without the tacks..And just continue around the piece..Cover with a stitch weld..And now We're done!.. Looks plenty straight to me..Tube done..Weapon..3/32 red..200 amps..1/16 70S-2Blah blah..I get all the fun jobs.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
