hi guys, I'm new to the site and welding . but a guy from work gave me a miller helmet to get stated welding . how do I test it to see if it works or how do I charge it? He said it may need work to it here a pic
Reply:It looks like it's a Miller xlix but you seem to be missing the front lens cover. The easiest way to test it is by turning it on and turning up the sensitivity. The sparks from a cigarette lighter should be enough to activate it so just look through as you flick the lighter. If you find that it works and need the front cover I may have it new in the package with 5 replacement lens.
Reply:don't use it without the missing cover, you could easily scratch or scar the lens.Dynasty 200DXPassport plus w/ spoolmate 100victor 315c oxy/(act and prop)Miller digital elitemilwaukee power tools
Reply:thanks guys but I have the lens cover I took it off. I tryed the lighter thing and no good. may need new helmet. I put it in the sun for 8 hours but nothing happens it goes black for a while and back to clear.
Reply:where is the battery on Miller xlix ?
Reply:The batteries are not replaceable but I've heard of some taking the case apart and replacing them. You say it goes black so it may be worth while to strike an arc, the lens on it own is dark enough that if you get flashed you won't get arc burn.
