I just picked up a Lincoln 125 from a box store and my first project is going to be a bbq grill frame. I'm wondering if using 1" x 1" x .125" angle iron with .035 fluxcore wire it came with will produce a decent weld. I'm not new to welding, I'm LA City certified in SMAWand much experience in TIG but have never used MIG/FLUXCORE and want to get started off on the right foot. Any suggestions are appreciated
Reply:Just use a steady hand. Keep the tip consistently the same distance from the workpiece..... the same protocols for a good stick weld, tig weld, oxy/ acet weld, mig weld are all similar. Clean the workpiece, and have fun!And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:make sure that if that flux core wire you are using is self-shielding, meaning no gas cylinder, that you set the welder's polarity to electrode negative. That means the negative lead goes to your gun and the positive is actually connected to the ground clamp. A lot of people buy a small welder that runs self-shielded flux core and can not get it to run correctly because they do not switch the polarity.Go hot, or go home!
Reply:practice on somescraps, seewhat gaps and bevels do..
Reply:Managed to get the frame completed today, came out awesome sorry no photos yet. Thanks for the help! |
