Hey guys  first let me give you a pre-cursosor of what i want to build and why.     About a month ago i got hired on as a welding inspectors assistant (and i consider myself a bit of a mig welder myself) and we predominately do pipeline work     most common sizes from 6" to 16"  and if any of you have every payed attention to the x-rayers thy carry the camera from weld to weld (which gets kinda sickening)  what i would like to make is some sort of cart that would slide on top of the pipe (but not just roll off the side if you know what i mean) so we could just roll the camera from weld to weld.   I dont have the exact measurments of the camera (right now)  but what i was thinking is maybe a little cart with skateboard trucks (and some sort of brake on a wheel)               what ideas/suggestions do you guys have for me???I realze not everyone (thats an understatement) likes X-ray   but i would appreciate any help         thanks
Reply:look up some roller coaster stuff you might get some ideas its kinda hard without seeing the camera i would consider  maybe something triangle ^shaped that maybe hinges to hug more of the side of the radius or something kinda like /--\ with wheels  to ride on the top and sides making it adjustable is the trick350P 30A spool gun cut master 51  syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:To keep the cart from rolling off you could add an arm that comes out around the side of the pipe then goes under with a weight attached to it.

Reply:Just an arm off to the side to balance the thing as someone walk it from joint to joint? If the arm is a hunk of 3/4 pipe, you could put a socket on either side of the roller set.
Reply:Uma hunter has the vague shape correct, but you dont use wheels as they will drive your cart. What you use are a single roller per axle. this will prevent the cart from wandering on the pipe. The side angled pieces can have a wheel on them. Thing is finding a roller that will suit the cameras electronic needs. As you roll down the pipe obviously it isn't always smooth and thus not good for the video cable connections and other related parts. Reply:I think your thinking of a different type of camera,   there are no video connections     Its an x-ray camera to take xrays of the welds to look for defects in the weld, here is what the camera looks likehttp://www.ndtproducts.ca/Isotopes.shtml
