So we're at the point in our restoration of my father's '70 Barracuda convertible that the wiring's almost done in the dash, and I needed to mount the 8-track stereo back in place, but I wasn't about to use the cheap-*** metal strip that had originally been used... so I fabricated this lil guy outta some L-bar and rod I picked up at Orchard Supply.I cut and grinded and drilled the L-bar to fit around the lower back section of the stereo, then MIG welded on the two rods. After that I hand bent them to the right angles, lobbed off the excess, and grinded down the ends to be flat. Then I drilled a hole in each one, test fit it, painted it, and bolted it all in place.I think it worked rather well.
Reply:wow nice job flaagan looks stock nice but you may need to tell some of the younger guys here what a 8 track is
Reply:Nice......congrats on saving the life of a 70 Barracuda. My uncle has a 69 with a 340 in it with a custom made multi-port fuel injection system that can actually pass California emissions. Reply:Sweet, now you need to find some Foghat or Kansas tapes.
Reply:Nice mounting system and what 'Cuda would be complete without a tape deck. I remember when the hot tape decks of the day were Craig's. My first was their 4 track. Then I had a 4X4 - 8 track, and eventually had a Craig 4x4 w/ FM stereo. After that, the hot deck was a Sony Quadraphonic (early, true surround sound). When Cassettes came around, that was it. Smaller, lighter, less noisy and more reliable.Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene
Reply:That is one hell of a nice job. You didn't make it look like an afterthought. It looks like a factory bracket. That is the best part. I am sure it is way overkill for what is needed and I love that too. Way to go. Oh, and nothing beats a Chevy Big Block 454. Reply:Ask and ye shall receive. The photos are about a month old but nothing on the surface has changed since then, been a lot of wiring and whatnot mostly.

Reply:Rick.. no plans for stripes / hockey sticks / billboards. We're avoiding as much exterior hoopla as possible (had the bumpers painted body color, and the chrome wheel well moldings were left off).elvergon... 8-tracks were pretty much the precursor to cassette tapes. Somewhere in between the size of a VHS and a music cassette tape.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8-track_cartridge
