I talked to my dealer and he was unable to help me, so I thought I would run this question by you guys. Does anyone know of a source where I can get some hardfacing wire that will feed through my MM 175?
Reply:You might look on the Lincoln site. They have hard surfacing stick electrodes. I don't know about hard surfacing wire? If they do a Lincoln dealer will be able to get it for you. www.lincolnelectric.comGood luck
Reply:stoody makes hardsurfacing wire, I have some 1/16" here but don't know if they make it small enough for your machine to run itKeep your stick on the ice
Reply:Noone makes a hard facing wire smaller than .045 due to constraints in drawing it small (its kind of like flux core in construction). You really need to be at the 200amp range to lay it, and that would mean a lot of time waiting on duty cycle. You *MIGHT* be able to swing it with the machine wide open, but it wouldnt be a great idea with a 175A machine. This might be a good job to send out to the local welding shop.If you are stuck doing it yourself, a lot of folks making thier own anvils use a nickel wire that is not machinable. Not exactly hardfacing, but some of the various wires can get pretty hard and be a good poor mans substitute.http://www.rankin.com/  <--these folks have a crappy website, but a lot of the anvil fire folks swear by thier hardfacing wire.http://www.drmsmetals.com/drmshf.htm
Reply:I did look on the Lincoln site, and all I came up with was Lincore 60-G .045 wire on a 10lbs. spool. I would then have to change the liner to the gun and as joehobart said, I don't think my MM175 has enough amps. to lay that wire. As a beginner, I was hoping this was another job I could do on my own, since it is not a critical build up. Don't worry, I don't attempt any jobs that would put others or myself in harms way. We do have a buss box and some hardfacing rods so I might give that a try. There is no sense in only being lost at mig welding when I can be lost at stick welding at the same time! I guess it's called,,,,,Learning. Thanks to everyone's response, and if someone comes up with some hard .035 wire please let me know.
