Cutting & Welding Old LPG Gas Cylinder

HiI'm a backyard welder and am wondering what is the proper & safe way to work with an old gas cylinder that I want to make into a barbeque.I do know great care has to be taken. I've been told to remove the tap and fill with water. If that is correct, how to I, for example, cut or drill through the side? If it's upright, water will pour out; if I lay it over, the water will pour out where the tap was.Can anyone assist?Thanks,Mark.

Reply:Whittle a wooden plug to close the holes.  Fill with water and set on side then drill a hole to start your reciprocating saw with a metal blade.  A good bit of water came out as I was cutting and by the time I have several inches of cut the upper part is drained and the saw kerf provided plenty of venting.  You can look through the archives and find all kinds of methods.  The important thing is to decide for yourself.  Take everyone's advice with a grain of salt.
