Well guys I have not posted in a while, but with the people here with a "working man's PHD" in engineering I am sure you will be able to help me out.I sell tool boxes and air compressors in my business, and am sick of working with my suppliers to have them delivered.  The come on skids with most air compressors being about 500 lbs, large Waterloo tool boxes are much lighter.  My thinking is to get a small utility trailer to pull behind my pickup and a something to move them on and off like an all-terrain pallet jack I saw in northern tool, but I am afraid the pallets will scrape on the ramp of the trailer.Do any of you have a better idea for a dolly or truck to unload them with?  I have a forklift to set them on at my warehouse.  I would like something simple I could wheel into place in their shop and drop it.  I thought about getting an old truck with a lift gate, but I really would rather not have something else on the road.Does anyone make small drop bed utility trailers, like a 6 by 10?Thanks, Garrettwww.overtimeequipment.com

Reply:What about a trailer with a tommy-gate on the side of it? You could use a 7 pin trailer plug with auxiliary power and a battery mounted on the trailer. That would keep the tommy gate powered up.Patriot Performance AutoLincoln Power Mig 255CLincoln AC-225 StickVictor Journeyman O/AQuincy QT-5 Compressor

Reply:Could you build a trailer or have one made that tilts just enough so that the trailer bed and the trailer tailgate line up for a smooth off load. I have seen trailers like this for race cars that don't have much ground clearance. The front of the trailer only raises up a foot or two depending on the trailers suspension.Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.

Reply:Build a trailer and attach the axle to the frame with a couple hydraulic cylinders.Ive seen them for small forklifts and rollers. The entire deck lowers to the ground. I dont think you could use a solid axle...youd probably need the half axles and mount on on each side...

Reply:one of my old bosses used to have a trailer that had adjustable suspension in it... i knwo it wasn't cheap, but when it was lowered, the frame was only about 2 inches off the ground. he had it hooked up with an air-bag suspension. very neat little trailer, but it was kinda expensive i think... after he got the compressor, tank and controller unit. depending on how low you want to move the bed, and how often you will be using it, it may be an option.also, what about using a LONG tail-gate/ramp? if you coudl make a gate that folded down and then throw some ramps on the end, it may help too... the longer you make the incline, the shallower the climb will be.later,Andy
Reply:How about a trailer with a hoist built across it.  Then have the back end of the trailer ( after the axle) removable.  This way you can Back up, lift it up to remove the floor board then lower it to ground level.  Then you can use any form to move it around from their.
Reply:You say you have a forklift so why not take a slightly different approach that allows for he use fo that machine.   What you might want to look into is a tilt bed trailer like some stock car runners and dragsters use.   The are designed so that the vehicle can be rolled on or off with minimal effort.   Depending on the design you may end up with a small ramp.   The key with this is that the angle of the ramps is shallow.   Thus avoiding the chassis drag.   The few that I know about where home made.   The other problem you might get into is the distribution of weight.   Something you would have to be careful about.dave
Reply:Before you go too far with the trailer idea, have you checked on what insurance or special license may be required.  I'm not saying there is, but your company may not be willing to support this.I do think it's great that you care enough about your customers to want to help them out, just make sure you don't get yourself in a bind.
