I have customer come and take a look, he approves and is happy. Doesnt want any brushing of the SS, this is a functional item for a jail kitchen, not for glitz. Last step is to install the SS cap screws, using SS nuts, and MS, SS flat washers; which I ordered, for close fit to the shank and small O.D. I trim the hex heads of the 2 outer fixed leaf for clearance when the door is full open. After tightening the nuts, each exposed hex head is then lightly fusion welded to the washer, the washer welded to the hinge leaf. This allows the hinge and/or door to be removed, after the security screws that jail maintenance will install, are removed. This stops inmates in the kitchen from fiddling with the door or whats behind it.Prison/jail security work, both in providing items or repairs and working inside these facilities is totally different than normal fab or repair work:-items used must be strong enough to resist breakage, tearing off, tampering etc.--over a long period of time.-any little piece of metal or sharp objects, can be used as weapons (I pick up and store every piece of mig wire, tip cutoff, when working in the facility.) You only take inside the bare minimum of tools, organized in toolboxes and containers, then put tools back in the boxes when not in use, then account for everything that youve brought inside, before leaving. Theres a whole bunch of other practices that are done, as far as moving thru a facility (theres CC-TV cameras everywhere-and maintenance has to call on the radio, to have door after door, remotely locked and unlocked as youre moving-theres multiple levels of locked security),when in an area containing inmates, etc. One has to divide their attention between the job and whatever else is going on around them. When Im in there, Im on high alert. Youre accompanied by jail maintenance and if need be, by an armed officer. Oh--and another little thing to think about--they have a No Hostage policy--meaning that no negotiations will occur if hostages are taken. Anybody hostage--is on their own. Its not a normal portable job!http://www.weldingweb.com/attachment...1&d=1195885362 Attached ImagesBlackbird

Reply:Oh so cuddly!! That's a good looking job. I have not worked in any jail facilities, but I did once work in a missile production facility. We were underground. They combed their way through our trucks. Gave us full background checks weeks before the job, to get approval. We had to inventory every tool, and all of the parts we brought in. All boxes of screws had to be small, ie 100 count, and brand new. They would count our stuff out at the end of the day. To use the restroom, a security guard had to follow us as far as into the bathroom with us; not in the stall, but right outside. We had to sign confidentiality sheets, no cameras whatsoever allowed. No site drawings or maps were allowed to leave. It was rather mundane, in the end. But you sure got used to knowing you were definitely being watched!!!!And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
