Need advice. I have HH135. Need a bigger machine but would hate to buy a 175 then want to upgrade from that. SO ideally a 200 amp would be the machine to buy. Then there's stick welders for a lot less money. Don't know  if I would like stick compaired to mig ( would keep the 135 for small stuff). Also is there a big difference between AC and AC-DC? I don't do alot of welding-mostly repairs and some hobby. Appreciate any ideas.                                                                               Ray C.
Reply:dc welders are more .....hhhhhhmmmmm....user friendly sort to speak....i'm a big fan of stick....what ever you want to do it will do and to change over is just a matter of changing sticks and click a knob...and at later date if you want to tig....just get a scratch start unit and run it off the stick welder...
Reply:I have yet to find a machine that can't be turned down far enough.Repairs on what?  Cars & light trucks, the 175 will probably never top out, but if you're repairing dozers, go BIG or stay home.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:Ray c.,I'm in somewhat the same delimma - I have the MM135 and and old Sears buzz-box that'll go to 280 amps.  The bolierman makes a point, but I like MIG better because it is more forgiving to rookies like me.  My thought is that if I'm gonna get serious with this welding (and it looks like I am - I'm hooked bad!) I'll want to weld aluminum soon, and I know a Dynasty is out of the picture $$ wise.  I'm going to a MM210 later this year, with a spool gun.  That machine can do anything I am capable of at present.More food for thought.Be well.hnakj
