I couldnt get a response on the Hobart forum or on the Hobart section of this forum, so I will try it here. I was wondering if anyone knew anything about my old Hobart wire feed. On the spec tag it says model AGH-27. I dont know when it was made. I have been using it hooked up to a stick welder. The problem is that a stick welder does not have a contactor and the wire electrode remains "hot". I need to figure out a way to make the electrode "cold" until the trigger is pulled. Miller has a secondary contactor that I am told will work, but that part is $510. That seems crazy to me. Any help would be great.
Reply:You either need to turn the stick machine on or the welding current on between the welder and the feeder. You need a contactor, and a control transformer to accomplish the switching. The whole thing can probably be bought off Ebay for under a hundred bucks. What make & model stick machine are you using to drive the feeder?Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:Most wire feeders are meant to be used with a constant voltage power supply.
Reply:I searched on ebay for contactors and found an overwhelming selection. What kind of contactor do I need? I am open to buying the correct power supply to hook this to, if I knew what the correct one was....
Reply:The p[roblem here is I don't know what the AGH-27 feeder is, or what machine you're running it from.Is it a suitcase feeder, with a switch that allows you to feed from either a CV or CP welder, or is it like my Hobart 70?Since Hobart became HoFart division of Indochina Tool Works, there is very limited information available on line. The AGH-27 doesn't show any on line support from HoFart.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
Reply:Here's a picture if it helps, looks very old.  I can't remember who Rock said bought the heavy part of hobart when ITW got the rest.  You may search over on the dark side and track who bought the heavy stuff.  They may be able to help you.http://www.graymachinery.com/grayimg...400502E09?OpenLast edited by Paychk; 04-05-2004 at 08:39 PM.
Reply:Thermal Dynamics bought the industrial side of the Hobart line, although I wouldn't expect them to know that.Appreciation Gains You Recognition-
