Hi allI'm thinking about buying a mm251. It seams like a really nice machine, more that I need right now but I don't want to buy to small now to save a few dollars and then have to upgrade later.  I had a few questions that I can not seam to find the answers to.  First dose the mm251 have to ability to do spray ark.  Secondly with the mm251 it says it can use both the spool gun and the regular gun without having to switch anything.  So I was wondering dose that mean it has two gas hookups and it changer between them so I can use c25 for steel and argon for the aluminum without having to change the bottle.  Also it there is anyone that has this machine are you happy with it and would you recommend it to some else. Thanks you guys for you help  drfeelgood
Reply:What's up, Doc?Don't own a 251, but got to use one - sweet!  The 251 has dual gas solenoids.  Miller's "gun-on-demand" feature will open the solenoid associated with which gun trigger you pull.  Nice.Be well.hankj
Reply:I have a MM210 with dual gas cylinders, which is very similiar. Hankj is right, the machine has two gas solenoids, and circuitry. So you just pull the trigger on the gun you want. Of course you need to set your parameters on the machine for what your welding, and turn the proper gas cylinder on. Attached Images
Reply:Dr. Feelgood, I own one of the MM251 welders and it is a prized machine in my shop. I believe the others have answered your questions, so I won't repeat the answers again. The one small facet that I did not like about the welder is that the hose for the spoolgun is not routed through the welder's body. Not a big problem, but having the hose dangling off the side of the machine opens up the possibility to severing it from either rolling over it with the machine's wheels or otherwise damaging it. The fix involved nothing more than half an hour's work with a hole saw on the welder's rear panel, installation of a body grommet on the new hole and the addition of a few wire hangers on the interior of the access panel to keep the hose from causing any problems in the area of the wire drive. No need to use the hole saw on the front of the welder as the hole in the front panel for the regular MIG gun is large enough to pass an extra hose through. If you are purchasing the welder without the spoolgun and planning to buy one at a later date, be advised that you will pay significantly more for the gun later on down the road and you will have to purchase a two tank rack for the machine as well. The rack is included with the welder IF you purchase the spoolgun at time of purchase. Hope to hear you've purchased the machine as I know you will enjoy using it.
Reply:I am also looking at the same rig at this time. I am new to mig welding, would this be overkill for a "first" mig welder or save me money in the long run since I would not have to upgrade. I would like to work toward being able to weld aluminum. Thanks.
Reply:SlimJim, Overkill...some will tell you that you can't go too large on something like a welder. Still, I think it would depend greatly on whether your welding needs are great or small. If you just have a hankering to do some aluminum work, but don't envision all that much of it or even that much heavy steel work I would have to say that the mm251 would be overkill. If you are starting in the hobby or craft and seem to enjoy what you can do with it and see yourself wanting to do much more than the mm251 just might be a money saving way to go. You'll have to be your own best judge of whether or not this welder will fill your needs or not. Just starting out, some will say that the infinately variable settings are somewhat harder to operate than the stepped tapped setting models. If you don't see yourseld devoting a good deal of time to welding in your future you may be better served with a smaller unit and the extra tools that the same amount of cash could buy you...grinder, clamps, etc.
Reply:Dr. Feelgood,I went through the same thing a couple of months ago and did decide on the MM251 because it had just that much more capability than the 210.  I haven’t tried spray yet but did get a tank of 98/2 recently and will give it a shot soon.  If Dan can get the 210 to spray with 98/2 you should have no problem using spray with the 251.  I'm very impressed with the 251 my first passes (short circuit), on 1/8 steel T joint fillet weld, made me a believer. I tried everything but could not break the weld. Excellent machine. Allen
Reply:Thanks alot guys for you help.  I have made up my mind and i'm going down to the welding store on tuseday to order one. I can't wait
