Had 5 Grapples to weld the new bushings in on both sides today..Weld Area..Weld..Notice the chains and the hoist..Story to follow.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I had taken the chains off the first one I was doing..Was kinda wobbley on the table so I found some steel to stop the wobbling..As I was cleaning the weld area the grapple started to "slide" twards me.. I had all I could do to keep it on the bench..Gravity was winning... I lost it..It fell on the floor..It was heading directly for my footpedal so in the nick of time I managed to kik it out of the way before impact..Just missed my foot.. This was the end result..I lost 8 feet of my brand new ground cable..I was very luck that was all!Got me thinking after I changed my shorts.. "What if I was welding it with my mask down" I said..It would just "dissapear" and the damage would have been done before I even got a chance to flip my mask up..The concequences would have been bad bad bad..Easily a broken leg..And they would still be trying to get my foot out of the footpedal steel toes or not.. So in the end make sure what your doing will "stay there"!!! or else who knows what will happen..Stay safe everyone.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:How much do you think that thing weighed? 200 Lbs? Either way it must have weighed alot and sure would have broke your foot. Luck on your side today. Be safe

Reply:I thought that was your new cable...hahahahaImagine if it was your pedal Glad your not hurt weld it like you own it
Reply:If you hadn't been lucky that thing could have taken off your foot. Although I'm sure it was a job well done, maybe you should tack your pieces down.

Reply:Zap, I hope you don't take offense to this, but since we're on the subject of safety. I gotta say that in that last photo in your first post, I don't like the way you lifting that grapple....those mickey mouse c-clamps could easily slip off of that heavy piece. That rigging is a recipe for disaster.Last edited by Tinbasher; 12-05-2007 at 08:30 PM.
Reply:Man that was close, just thinking if you had your lid down scares me. I'm glad you're ok, and you have all your toes and even your foot pedal, quick thinking!- Jason

Reply:So, you kicked the pedal out of the grapple's way, during its fall, but you didn't get a photo of it on the way down. And, I thought you were fast, Zap!

Reply:If the Grapple broke in half during the fall would you consider any filler when welding it back together?A good guess is better than a bad measurement
Reply:Stick weld it, time is money buddy.

Reply:Zap,I hope it wasn't an electric powered hoist? I always use a non conductive sling if it is. As an aside you could put the hooks completely round the part and bypass the G clamp. But nice welding as always.Clive
Reply:Like we use to say on the kitchen, "A falling knife has no concence". Nice job on the grapple, are you gonna build up the buisness end too?Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
