Here is a link to what I'm buildinghttp://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...t=09f20ed1.pbwSorry if anyone recognizes any of the pictures as their ownThese are just the picture that inspired me to take on this projectThis is part of the season I joined your forum. For help. I was looking for tips and sugestions. I want to build a 1/2 scale 928 CAT Loader. For the past 3 months I've been collecting materials for the build.  And managed to recrute my son he is a licenced welder at a local machine shop. And I've just resently got my son-inlaw to help out too. He work at Motion Canada as a Hydraulic Ser Tech.I think I've given enough to them over the years, it's pay back time for me LOL.Any Tips, Suggestion or questions and even feed back are more than welcomeLast edited by Ironman; 11-22-2007 at 10:54 AM.
Reply:Here is a picture of Fred Heim beside his 1/2 scale 980H CAT loader
Reply:WOW!! I have wanted to build scale heavy equipment for awhile now, a little smaller but functional and radio controlled. That three axle trailer is beautiful!WOW! Im freakin out man(I am a serious geek when it comes to anything large and diesel powered)
Reply:Ironman, That's interesting.I saw a shrunk ‘48 Chevrolet car! It was built by sectioning the original. The frame hinge area on Fred's mini loader, looks more accessible than the real thing! Some construction equipment, especially the older wheel loaders,  looked like the designers used one plan, resized throughout the product line range. What makes these half-size projects unique, so that they are not simply mistaken for the small factory built wheel loaders that are available now? What will you use for power train? Will it need a drop box? Will it be able to demonstrate  too, or be strictly show? How about starting with a small  articulating machine and disguising it. You'll still have plenty to do! Keep us posted.Good LuckLast edited by denrep; 11-22-2007 at 12:59 PM.

Reply:All i can really say is WOW.  I had no clue there was a subculture interested in scale heavy equipment, but I sure think it's cool!!  Really, I wouldn't have guessed in 5 years of back-to-back guesses that anyone was into this LOL.  Now I'd LOVE to see one of these mini-beasts in action, very interesting!  Be sure and keep us posted, and does anyone on here have one of these bad boys to post up?Have a Jeep Cherokee?  Click Here!

Reply:Wow! those are really great projects.  Although, I don't think Fred will fit in the skip loader.  Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene
Reply:It's too bad only the truck and the loader are functional. The dozer, and excavator is wood. All things considered thats not bad for a contractor that built wood boats for a hobby.I guess if he was a welder by trade, that would be one impressive fleet.Glenn
Reply:I found an example of one of those spec. charts.  Open the link and Click on "Dimensions" from the menu on your lefthttp://www.westrac.com.au/Westrac.We...ia/C305680.pdf#1 Overall Height is 12'4"  at 1/2 scale it would stand 6'4" tall#3 Hood Height is 8'11"     at 1/2 scale it"s just under his arm 4'5.5"GlennLast edited by Ironman; 11-22-2007 at 04:28 PM.

Now the hole package is 4 sale $150,000.00Myself...I would luv to have the truck, the lowboy trailer and the wheel loader. But I wouldn't build it out of wood. That's why I'm starting here. I want to build it all out of steel.Glenn
