Reply:Visit your local nursery or trading post/gift type stores.  They have a lot of that stuff out of steel and you can get ideas.I've seen many that use spare parts, bolts, washers, beraings and anything else they can find to make some pretty impressive items.I was down at the shore a few weeks ago browsing the "artsy" type gift stores.  Someone made a flat, random tacked (end to end) wall sculture out of 1/2" flat washers.  They painted it black, put a clock on it and were selling it for $300.Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene

Reply:I saw some 3-D fish where they simply cut the side profile X 2, bent that to the form they wanted then cut a top and bottom profile to fit. Added on the pieces they needed. They started and ended in a wedge (front and rear). Well beyond my talent range.  Guess you could staple a cat to a back board for a template.
Reply:I did a google image search for "cat sculpture" and found this:This isn't a cat, but it might give you ideas. It's an Armadillo sculpture in Pueblo, Colorado that I thought looked cool. It looks like the artist used some old tractor seats for the body. Sorry for the small pic.Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 Stick Linde HDA-300 MillerMatic DVI MIG Miller Dynasty 200DX Hypertherm Powermax 1000

Reply:The cat above is called "Tubby cat", and it's made by the company called Yardbirds.  There's a ton of variations of cats and dogs on their website, and there's a bunch more from their old catalogs that aren't on the site anymore:http://www.yardbirds.info/index.php/...n/p/index.htmlThere's even a small chance I made that cat, I started working for them 3 months ago.  It's a fun place to work, super laid back, and a ton of variety, we weld them as the orders come in, so you only do 1-5 of one animal, then you get a different one.  The pay isn't fantastic, but I am getting really good at welding thick to thin, like welding a 2" diameter cast ball bearing to the exhaust side of a lawn mower muffler (I don't know how thin it is, but it makes 22 gauge sheet look like plate steel.)Back to the subject at hand, I'd google "scrap metal animals", look at a bunch of them (not just yardbirds!), then use those to come up with your own design.  Look at the details, if they use nails for whiskers, or nuts for eyes, etc., once you figure out what to use for the main parts (eyes, ears, legs, etc.) you can make a lot of different variations with the same parts.PatrickLincoln 175HD

Reply:While not cats, and some are quite large, I think all of you will appreciate what this old timer does with scrap. It's called the Swetsville Zoo and is in Timnath, Colorado just outside of Fort Collins, north of Denver. All this stuff covers about ten acres or so and he doesn't charge anything to see it all.  http://www.macwebguru.com/gallery/SwetsvilleZoo/
