No big progress on my chopper to report but i did something constructive today Ive been thinking of making my own rear fender ether from scratch or reshaping a trailer fender. Trailer fender 14.00,chopper fender maybe a 100.00 no matter i like to make my own stuff anyway I figure ill need a piece of metal with a radius on it to mount in a vise.So here we go! (9 pics ) This is the steel. I'll be using the small side Attached Images
Reply:Ready to burn Attached Images
Reply:Need to be i little higher up Thats ok were about to make our radius with our circle cutter i showed you how to make Attached Images
Reply:I think this radius should be good for fenders. Notice the 3/8 plate i used to jack up my torch Attached Images
Reply:Thats because this stuff is THICK Attached Images
Reply:Not to shabby for cutting with one behind my back Attached Images
Reply:one hand behind my back its supposed to read! Anyway here its cleaned up a bit. Attached Images
Reply:I'll probably use it in a vise(not this one made in 1814 ) Also i've had ideas of mounting all my stuff to 2in sq stubs and bolting a post to the floor with a trailer receiver straight up but thats another project Attached Images
Reply:Quick note!!! read and follow instructions in your owners manual or download them online, be safe above all No guessing For this project i used a Victor #3 tip ,50psi of oxygen and 5psi of acetylene. 6 inches of torch travel=30 seconds. How many amps is that with a plasma cutter Finger tired now, later fellas Victor SuperRanger O/A Solar migLincoln Powermig 140Southbend 9in lathe350# kohlswa anvilMiller Maxstar 150 stl etc....
Reply:Excellent work! I didn't know you could cut through steel that thick with oxy-acetylene. Do you have any advice or tips for newbies to oxy-acetylene cutting and welding? What equipment should we look for?Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 Stick Linde HDA-300 MillerMatic DVI MIG Miller Dynasty 200DX Hypertherm Powermax 1000

Reply:Carl thats a good site! good info.I use a medium duty Victor as the Journeyman series is kinda heavy for welding. If i was to buy another setup id buy a Smith (Made in America) and guaranteed for life i believe.Sadly Victor is now made in MexicoVictor SuperRanger O/A Solar migLincoln Powermig 140Southbend 9in lathe350# kohlswa anvilMiller Maxstar 150 stl etc....
Reply:That's a good thick manly chunk of steel there!
Reply:Great job with that cutting attachment.Have you seen the planishing hammer Harbor Freight has on sale now for $100 ? Comments other places on the net indicate its a useful tool.It looks like a perfect tool for messing with a bike fender and gas tank.
Reply:Great work C-K, thanks for sharing. I like the O/A cutting, refer to my "structural side job" for pics. I was cutting 1" and 1.5" I-beams like they were butta'! I believe a good O/A will cut up to 6+ inches. Good stuff!John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:You can find a tip chart here: http://www.hoopersupply.com/tipchart.html I tried to copy and paste it but gave up after a while.Common sense in an uncommon degree is what the world calls wisdom.

Reply:Thanks fellas,Notbored i just looked at that HF planishing hammer, not bad at all.Did you see the hammer by itself is on sale for 4.99? With that hammer and the free plans at www.jerrysdiycorner.com i think you'd get a little more personal satisfaction making your own.Myself i haven't thought that far ahead but with my neighbor's bedroom window 16ft from my shop (carport) i don't think ill be doing any pneumatic hammering here Victor SuperRanger O/A Solar migLincoln Powermig 140Southbend 9in lathe350# kohlswa anvilMiller Maxstar 150 stl etc....
