Hey guys...Well, after many trips to the scrap yard, plenty of odd jobs, and a couple months worth of saving up, im almost ready to go welder shopping. Im looking to get a fairly capable mig machine. Im basically trying to compare the two welders here. The 187 is the cheaper of the two, and claims to weld up to 5/16. I can get this from our local tractor supply for less than at northern, unlike the lincoln. At school, we have mostly miller machines, which i kind of like the "feel" of over the lincolns there, and im told this is very similar to a miller. Ive always heard hobart gives you the most welder for you money. The Lincoln 180 claims to weld up to 1/2 inch. My two current welders are both lincolns, and i really like them both. Im pretty new at all this, so i guess im just wondering if theres anything im overlooking here, and which of the two, would you guys buy, if you were in my shoes here?? Reply:I looked at the 180 and the 187 when I was looking for a mig and I ended up getting the hobart 210 with the spool gun Northern had it on sale for $900.00 or close to it. It works well and lays a nice bead the only thing I don't like about it is the weight of it espically with a 10 pound spool in there it is not very convient for my mobile welding. My friend has the hobbie 187 and I have used it before and it pretty well he has welded many pieces of 3/8s with it just with mulitple passes and hasn't broken one yet. If the 210 is out of the question I would go with the 187.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.
Reply:Ps Northern tool will match the tractor supply price and if you order online they will match it and beat it by 10%.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.

Reply:I own the Hobart HH 187 it is a great machine. The HH 210 would be the way to go though if you planned on welding any aluminum in the future. Not a lot of cost difference between the HH 187 and the HH 210 but if you were going to try to convert the HH 187 to weld any aluminum it would end up costing you more to get it fixed up with a spool gun.
Reply:I looked at both when looking to buy my welder but was not able to learn much on the Hobart at the time. (I hear lots of good things about it) I bought the Lincoln Pro Mig 180 and have been very happy with it. I am far from a full-on welder but the 180 has made lots of the learning process easier.Click Here to see my full review if more photos, video and info would be of help to you.I do not have a review of the Hobart though am looking at their lines for future material.Tom Hintz, publisherwww.newmetalworker.comLincoln Pro Mig 180Lincoln AC 255Determination
Reply:I have the Lincoln Weldpak 180HD which is the Lowes version of the ProMig 180 and have liked it ever since I got it.  It handles everything I need it to do and has not failed me yet.  Cant tell you about the Hobart, never used one, so I cant comment.A few of my toys !LinuxMintManjaroMiller Roughneck 2E Lincoln WeldPak 100HTP MTS 160 Chicago Electric 80amp Inverter   Victor O/A
Reply:Go with the hobart its a better machine over all i have used both and own all hobart equipment you cant go wrong with hobart.Hobart mega arc 250 Airco dipstick160 air liquide cutting torches arc air gouger and so many more goodiesIf you cant dazzle them with brillants baffle them with bullsh$t
Reply:I own a HH 187 and a Power MIG 180C. If I had to limit myself to just one of them, I'd go with the HH 187. The main two reasons for this choice being the 187 weld puddle wets out better, and the HH 187 produces more top end powerESAB Migmaster 250 Hobart Ironman 230Multimatic 215TWECO Fabricator 181i & 211iHH125EZ - nice little fluxcore only unitMaxstar 150 STH - very nice
