Snap-On's Muscle MIG

Hello:Just so you know I have lurked and I have used the search function so I know the general attitude towards snap-on branded welders.  See, I got it right-branded, not made by.I have a line on a Muscle Mig, which I saw in another post is made by C/K Systematics. Is C/K Decent?  I wouldn't even consider it except it's kinda cheap (like 1/10th retail) and it's not a Century welder.  Also, it runs standard consumables.  Only downside is that I'd have to have a 30 amp circuit to run full power.  Thanks for the input.
Reply:I didn't want to post in the other Muscle MIG thread because I was afraid of getting drawn into the flamewar, BUT:My father-in-law has one of these down at the shop he works at.  They do fairly light fabrication (build dune buggies).  They primarily use it for fairly light stuff (tabs, brackets, etc...) when they're in an area of the shop away from a 230V outlet, and he's been very impressed by it.The only downside I can see is that the retail price for a new one (over $2700 !!) is simply outrageous for a 140amp machine, but if it meets your power requirements and you can get it for cheap (I assume you're talking in the $250-300 range), I'd definately go for it.Edit: On SnapOn's website I see it also does DC TIG, which isn't anything you'll find on a typical 115V/140A welder.Last edited by JonB; 06-03-2004 at 03:48 PM.
Reply:I have tried to do some DC tig welding using a small mig and it is no picnic. Unless they have some kind of special tig mode in this thing don't believe it'll work.
Reply:It would have to switch from constant voltage (CV, MIG welding) to constant current (CC, Stick/TIG welding).  Don't know about those Snap-Ons, but for that kind of retail price it ought to weld for you while you drink a beer.
