Hello, I'm a newbie to your board. I am not a pro.I have a fair amount of experience welding steel with stick and ox/gas torch. I'm not bad with the TIG on steel. But now I want to weld thin gauge aluminum. My question is concerning how I should clean and prepare the joint for welding.Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Reply:I usually just brush it with a new stainless brush, one that hasn't been used on anything else.
Reply:Yes. Vigin stainless brush. Light brushing in only one direction. Aluminum oxide melts around 3000f or something silly. Get it off. Preheat to only 250f too (if you pre-heat)Acetone maybe, but unless it's aircraft stuff forget it. Most of my work is freshly filed/ground so I just give 'er.The safe path leads to stagnation |
