A few years back I got with a good friend to weld some rocksliders for me. We never completed them, but I decided to finish them last summer. I was a little "concerned" finishing them. So I built some tractor implement things to get a feel I was doing things right. I had thoughts if they were not done correcting, seeing your weldment pass you down the highway would really suck. After poor paint and Wisconsin winter this is what they had become.....2 hours of cleaning per slider and exploding a sanding disc on my leg! Oh my that F&^%$ hurt. This is what I got....I figured I wanted the outer rail 2 inches from the widest point on my Xterra. I call them OMS aka Old Man sliders. The material used was HREW 2 x 2 x 3/16 wall, overkill for light wheeling IMHO. The supports were mitered at 15 degrees and 60ish MM long on my HF bandsaw.Supports welded on the main rail. I did grind down the bottom weld and filled back it. I did not want a bead exposed on the bottom side of the rails.Supports welded on.I finished the sliders with Rusty primer and then brushed on Duplicolor's bedliner coating. Two weeks later I was wheeling with some friends. Being the last through a section and only 31s I lost traction and slid slideways into a tree. It was a good test for them, but I would have rather not hit the tree. The last pic is for fun and no articulation..........Last edited by xccelagator; 01-01-2008 at 05:34 PM.My instructor said someone will catch on fire during class...He wasn't joking!!
