Best low-budget auto-darkening helmet

Reply:the under 100 auto darkening helmet is a huge and growing market. Almost all of the major maufacturers have realized this and are coming out with helmets to fill this market. My best suggestion is to go to a local distributor and see what they have, Huntsman Solera line is good, ArcOne, Sellstrom, FibreMetal, and Jackson all have good helmets in this category. Look for something thta has two sensors and at leat a 1yr warranty. Best of luck. BW
Reply:I recently purchased a Solar Powered auto dark helmet from HF. I also have a Speedglas helmet I picked up used in the paper for $75. To be real honest, I can't tell a huge difference between the both of them in terms of the auto dark feature, except that you have to put batteries in the Speedglas. The speedglas is a lot more comfortable, but the HF is pretty good. The same helmet is on sale right now for about $50 at your local HF store. Or you could just check your local classifieds, maybe you'll get lucky. For as often as the majority of us use the helmet, the HF ones are just fine. I also met a pro in the store when I bought mine, and that's all he uses. Just buys a new one every time they quit on him (which is pretty rare I guess), and says he's still ahead of paying $300+ dollars for a high-end one. Reply:I have the HF one and it works well for me too...  especially for the price.I did drop mine and the sensor panel shattered.  I took it back and they warrantied it -- no questions asked -- and gave me a new helmet.  They did ask that I take out the in store warranty for the new one - 2 years full replacement for $10.  I did it, figuring that I would likely use it and $10 for a third helmet would be a pretty good deal overall.Hey!
