The following pics are of some gas turbine engine nozzles that I am currently manufacturing. The parts are a good example of very close tolerance machining, Welding and Vacuum Furnace Brazing processes that were involved in the manufacturing of this type of hardware. Attached Images
Reply:Pretty cool. What are the turbines used in?And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.

Reply:The tolerances are thousandths of an inch. I used to maintain several and have a good friend that works for Trans-Canadian Turbine.  Wow - very close tolerance machining! John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:Neet!Looks like the inside of a torque converter.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Torque converter?  Sort of, but not quite. If those units are on the intake side, the temps they see may be air temps of -60F or colder.  If they are on the exhaust side of things, the temps may be 2000F+ !!!   And again, whether the units are before the burner (compressor stage) or after the burner (gas turbine stage), the materials aren't plain carbon steel in either case.   Torque converter for 25,000 HP maybe.   And many of the tolerance will be in the under 1 thou range.
