anybody here do any tung. carbide welding on down hole tools for these service tool companys?
Reply:I have never heard of welding tungsten carbide to drill tools. I understood it was silver alloy brazed. Tungsten carbide tips are made using powder metallurgy. Basically you have small particles that you press into shape under tons of pressure. Afterward the piece is placed into a furnace and fused solid into the desired shape.
Reply:lotech is right, i don't think tig could handle the heat. it's tungsten vs. tungsten there. almost the same situation with diamond and sillicon carbide tipped tools, it's an adhesive that holds them on tightStangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:from what ive seen the carbide comes in a stick of brass or bronze alloy and they use a rosebud to soilder it on the tool head, then they have to grind it to fit the size pipe or fitting that it has to go through. |
