I picked up a used Miller Thunderbolt 225. Got to run it before I bought it. Spent a little more on it because it has about 70' combined in leads. The issue I've now got with it, is the ground lead is almost completed Electrical tapped and the Stinger Lead has 20 or so quick patches where the rubber shielding cracked and was tapped to correct.Found a deal on a 37' piece of new #1 wire which appears to be rated for my setup. Was curious if running the Stinger lead that is in better shape but still has some tape for a ground and the new piece for the stinger would be a decent idea. Or am I asking for an accident and need to replace both ASAP.I did weld with the setup all weekend without incident but I am looking at doing some work in out barn and going over pipe and around metal seems like an accident waiting to happen.
Reply:the decision is yours, you can see how bad it is... if you decide to fix it, be sure to wrap it first with electrical rubber tape..then the vinyl over top of that..what kind of a deal did you get on the 37" of #1?
Reply:I went ahead and ordered the 37' going the safer than sorry route. Any use for about 25 feet of 1 or 1/0 lead that is completely electrical tapped?
Reply:Take it to your local recycler they are paying like a $1.50 to $1.85 per pound for copper. Just take a razor blade to the jacket.Vantage 300 kubota ,miller 304 xmt ,lincoln ln 25 pro , ranger 305 G, plenty of other tools of the trade to make the sparks fly.
Reply:As long as they're taped well and not corroded, you can also make some nice heavy duty jumper cables out of them. |
