Bunker Tank Railing

Here is my latest project at work. We use a transport tanker for our fuel tank which we keep Bunker C in. We need to climb up and dip the tank to read the level. Their is no railing around the deck and the safety committee decided their should be one. O had to make the middle side rails bolt on as I pipe will be running over it. Reply:Great looking project Jamlit. On a side question, how do they keep bunker fuel warm enough to flow in a ship? I would imagine 100K gallons of the stuff would stay pretty cool when in a steel ship sitting in the ocean, with an ave. temp of 57degrees.And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.

Reply:Nice job J,  It shows you know what you are doing.  That fuel is cheaper than the thinner stuff.  David Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.

When the steam heats the oil it starts to move. the natural circulation because of this will keep the oil warm and moving. You measure the oil temp at the suction line for your bunker pumps. You always have the bunker flowing through all the lines possible all the time. In our case we pump the oil from the tank all the way to the boiler burner. When the boiler is off the oil recircs back to the bunker tank.
