These are some of my first welds using the Gas. And yes I did change the polarity and use the correct wire. It looks like my welds are too much on top and don't penetrate enough. I'm thinking higher voltage and wire feed. I was at C on the Voltage and 3 on the wire feed. I'm just about out of scrap so I'll have to get some more tomorrow, but just wanted to see what you guys thought. BE NICE! Thanks; Steve Attached ImagesLincoln Pro Mig 180Everlast PowerARC 200
Reply:Hey Steve, your critique is accurate imho. What I would do for the time being is turn the machine up to full power, then try to find a good wire speed to match the power level. Since you already have one practice piece going, just keep adding weld metal to that piece. Just lay one bead right up against the last, lay row after row for practice. It saves on scrap metal, and teaches you how to weld in straight lines! We call it "padding".(Ok, maybe not full power, but turn up the heat!!!)City of L.A. Reply:Thanks; I ran lots of beads with the flux core, but I just went straight into welding joints when I switched to the gas. I'll follow that advice. I do have another questiion; is the sound supposed to be the same with MIG as for flux core; is it still supposed to have the frying eggs sound? It actually "sounded" pretty good while I was welding, it's just that I didn't get the result I expected.Lincoln Pro Mig 180Everlast PowerARC 200
