I have been on here for quite a while now and have asked many questions, and have got a lot of help. I an needing to put up a bit of barbed wire fence out at my house so I made this to help me out a little. I am going to get some old discs on monday and add them so the roll doesn't walk around. The last picture is of some clevises I put on the bucket a while back. I am sorry that I didn't have any change for the picture. It was all welded with a Ranger 8, 1/8" 7018 and some 5p. Feel free to give me any comments. Thanks, Matt Attached Images
Reply:Looks like you took what you had and made something useful out of it. Did you weld that hook downhill? David Real world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:I figured someone would say something about the hook, but no it was welded in a flat position but the bucket is not on the tractor so I couldn't tilt to take the picture flat. Good eye though!!!
Reply:That'll get it done !!Another good system is to use a junk rear axle off a FWD car. They come complete with a tension system (drum or disc brake) that only needs a variable screw adjuster (screw plunger or master cylinder) added to adjust tension.Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT

Reply:johnsonmopar, Thats a good job of making something use full out of what you have. Necessity is the mother of invention.David R, (Did you weld that hook downhill?) You need to get over the down hill welding is bad phobia. Down hill welds are made every day with stick and mig that pass x-ray, chemical etch and mag particle test. It just takes skill. Yes I am qualified to make that statement, 28 years welding steam, gas, ammonia, chilled & hot water lines with general fabricating thrown in.

Reply:whats wrong with welding downhill or moving backwards instead of pushing forwards with mig.
Reply:some codes require uphill, engineering types think downhill cools to fast
Reply:hi, noticed that you have two 2 1/2 X 5 nipples in the bucket on the right side. That is the beer cans. Thats what a old timer called them when i was a apprentice 35 years ago !!! he sent me to his truck and told me to bring him one. I said all that is there is your cooler. go inside and get it, oh, THE BEER !!!!!!!!!!!!

Reply:Everything looked good to me except the Bud. Coors rules,LOL. As far as downhill welding goes, the world is covered with pipelines welded with 5P for a stringer and hotpass and an 85 cap, all downhill. Don't care what an engineer thinks, Lincoln designed the rods to work that way and they are the worldwide authority on welding.
Reply:I have welded downhill,But I must have learned from the same people that David R did cuz I was always taught to run uphill.I have been welding since 1986 and I never welded downhill Ever till I got to Indiana about about 6yrs ago and was floored the first time I was asked to run downhill.I can do it ,but my preferance is to run uphill cuz it's more of a habit than anything. That's just my $.02 not that I am knocking downhill it's just the way I was learned. If it's too . get an office jobLincoln wp225g7 Lincoln 250 idealarcFrankenstein O/A set-up Weld-tech tig set-upLincoln sp 175 plus profax arc gouger

Reply:I was lucky?? enough to get to put up some fence this last weekend and it worked great. I don't think I will even put stops on it. I didn't have any problems of the rolls walking around. Matt
Reply:That is some great thinking! Of all the fence I have helped install with the tractor there, we never thought of that! We had a pipe frame that stuck in the pickup stake pockets and out the drivers side a couple feet. Drive down the post line, wedge the roll, pull it tight and nail it down. Granny gear in that old GMC was good for something besides pulling stumps.
