Here's a quick little project I did the other day, just for kicks. It easily holds a box of 2500 BB's, and shoots them all in less than 1 minute. That's around 50 BB's per second! If I had to guess I would say around 400fps @ 120psi.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!

Reply:Ok... I drew up a pathetic little sketch in MS Paint.Yep, it's that simple. BB's are agitated by the air and funneled out through the barrel. I used the barrel from an old pellet rifle, and TIG welded it on the front plate, then countersunk the inside to form the funnel. A piece of 1/8" brake line would probably work pretty good too.Tinbasher, you'd be welcome to try  I wouldn't shoot anybody's pet, BTW. Unless it got my nerves enough. Around here there are lots of non-pet wild cats. Evil little bastards they are. They kill anything they can get their demonic little claws in, just for fun. I don't want them here, nobody does. As far as my "juvenile mind", well.... NANANABOOBOO!Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!

Reply:Originally Posted by PookieYes, there is.  To determine shot size, start with the number 17, which is actually .17  Whatever the shot size, you deduct that number from 17 which gives you the actual measurement.  For example, #9 shot is .08 of an inch and #2 shot is .15 of an inch.  #2 shot is about as close as you can come to .177 without going to a steel shot.  If you shop it closely, you can buy a 25# bag of shot for about 13.00
Reply:So do you use your air compressor line to get that thing going? My Babies: HF Drill pressHF Pipe Bender3   4.5" Black and Decker angle grindersLincoln Electric PROMIG 175that´s it!Yes, I need more details so I can build my own this weekend.  For some reason, I am attracted to building useless things like my potato gun, propane flame thrower, tesla coil etc.  I don't have a full auto BB gun though.  So, I need some details here!  How did you attach the barrel to the canister?  Where did you get the parts?  What do you use to seal up the fill hole?  Are there a few BB's bouncing around in there after you're done shooting?  Thanks!  MattMatt in OKCLincoln 175HD
Reply:Yep, I build lots of useless stuff too. Telsa coils are fun, I need to build another one. I just picked up a 12kv 30ma transformer the other day. Ok, the canister is a piece of 2 1/2" pipe, with plates welded on both ends. The barrel is from a broken BB gun. I drilled a hole in the front plate, slipped the barrel in the hole and welded it in. Do this before welding the front plate on the piece of pipe. This is so you can grind the backside nice and smooth, and then use a countersink to make a nice little funnel shape at the mouth of the barrel. The rear plate is a 2 1/2" washer that I found laying around with a nut welded over the hole, and a bolt to seal it after filling. I found a steel fitting that my blowgun would screw onto. I drilled a hole very close to the edge of the pipe, and welded in the fitting. Then I welded on the front and rear plates, being careful to locate the barrel directly over the blowgun fitting. If you don't have a sacrificial pellet gun, a piece of 1/8" brake line costs about $4.00 at AutoZone, and is fairly close. An old barrel much better though I'm sure, the BB's are just a little loose in brake line. It will pretty much empty the gun, but towards the end the firing will get a little inconsistent. Have fun, and let us know how it goes!Stock up on BB's! Wear safety GOGGLES!edit: Oh yeah, I had trouble with the BB's falling down into my blowgun and messing things up, so I stuffed a piece of bent .040" wire in the fitting to keep the BB's out of the blowgun without limiting the airflow much.Last edited by Joe H; 10-03-2007 at 11:22 PM.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!

Reply:Man, some of you guys are a little anal, in thinking that he just wants to go around shooting cats. Read all of his posts and see what he was talking about. I think that the 300 winmag comment was pretty stupid and went way too far ( unless you want someone to come and take it )  . It's comments like that, that give the liberal "gun haters" the ammo they need to keep the gun ban lobbying  going. Use your head. Oh, if you care so much about your  animals, than keep them on YOUR property, where YOU can enjoy them.

Reply:My wife has a cat but the cat thinks I am his owner. I hate cats. Why do they love me? Dunno. But anyway, I was getting flat tire changed when a lady walks in and asks a bunch of guys if we saw her cat. I said to look under my tire. She got all huffy and began lecturing me. Now, I would run over a cat in the road, but I didn't in this case. But did she really think lecturing a gray haired old guy was going to do any good? Probably as much good as threatening someone on a forum on the internet, I guess. Our cat is declawed front and rear, neutered and is not allowed outside. If someone cares about their pets they don't let them run free where they can get squished by cars, shot by guns, eaten by dogs or coyotes. We as neighbors don't want YOUR cat crapping in our kids sandbox. Since air operated guns are illegal in our city, my son has a spring loaded plastic bb shooting gun. They sting like hell and don't penetrate (so far). Ok, sorry, didn't mean to rile anyone up.That's a lie.No, really, sorry. Reply:This reminds me, a couple of apprentices where I used to work got a length of sch40 pipe, welded a cap on it and fired a tennis ball using oxy-acetylene from a stubbed out torch. It made a hell of a bang and scared the crap out of them, plus everyone else in the shop who had no idea it was about to happen. As I recall they managed to hit the tin sides of a workshop accross the gulley which brought the owner of that shop accross to ours really riled up. They nearly lost their jobs over it but as no one was hurt they got off. So extreme caution.Clive
Reply:Nope, I haven't. My compressor puts out 140psi, I have not gone beyond that. I would assume accuracy would suffer at much higher velocities. Of course accuracy becomes kind of trivial, to an extent, when you can shoot 50 per second!I have thought about using a 20lb CO2 tank, to make it portable. I doubt I'd ever do it though. It is fun to play with in the yard, but I lose interest quick. I just wanted to build it and shoot a few BB's to kill some boredom.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:Thanks for the info on the BB gun!  I promise I won't shoot anybody's cat with it.  Geez.  Anyways, here's a video of a big tesla coil.  They serve no purpose other than to run up the electric bill.  but they're cool. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...arch&plindex=0Matt in OKCLincoln 175HD

Reply:Crossbow + cat = funWhen YOUR OWN pet cat that you love keeps getting attacked by wild cats that live in the woods near your property. These cats serve no purpose other than to cause problems in the neighborhood. The kill everything, stink up your back yard when they mark "their" territory and leave dead birds and other animals laying around. I'd never shoot someones pet, however. The first "cat" comment early in this topic was obviously a joke and for some reason, everyone blew it WAAAAY out of proportion.BTW, the municipality about 4 miles from here passed an ordinance last year that if you see a pittbull in the street unattended, the police can shoot to kill. They have had so many kids getting attacked by these DOGS that it came to this.So yes. I'd love to try something that can unleash 2500 BBs on these wild cats. Maybe I can build one of these guns and set it up with a webcam and remote control and everyone on the forum can control my gun from their house and shoot these wild cats for a hobby. You'd do our neighborhood a favor. Anyone that doesn't like it, we'll be glad to send you one of the wild cats to adopt after we swiss cheese it!Last edited by turboblown; 03-07-2008 at 04:48 PM.Reason: sniffing too much lacquer thinner typo
Reply:Oh, and I guess I qualify for the juvenile mind since my potato gun is powered by starting fluid and oxygen. It is truly violent. The ether/O2 mixture is the best that I'v found so far and we've tried just about every combination you could imagine that's in a shop.I like this gun idea. Since I make my own .50 pumpkin balls, I might try to build one to fire about a 100 or so. Just don't let the DHS or FBI find out about these, or the guys in the black Suburbans that wear suits might come visit, but that would be okay since they'd fire it once and want one for themselves.
