I thought I'd see what I could do fusing stainless today since everyones been posting about it lately...  I never tried it without fillerman is it fun! I did a few butt welds all on 18 gauge sheet unknown grade, First weld I kinda mashed the pedal and almost blew right through the thing but got it down in a couple seconds, sorry the pic is blurry but my camera sucks close up. any input besides the obvious way to hot section? after I did a couple butts and got confident I made a cube, same material, all fused...  Yea, I was bored shut up cause I think its a cool cube! I guess I should add, Anyone know how to take really close up pictures so I can show the detail on these tiny little welds better? my camera just goes way out of focus if you get closer than 24" or so as you can see? Reply:Nice little project Willy. For better close-ups, set the camera in macro, or even super macro. You will have a setting on the dial, or a seperate button. Most times, the macro icon is a little flower of some kind. Actually looks like a tulip or a lily, I think they are. Anyway, with macro, the camera will likely retain its' zoom feature, and will focus from 6" to 1ft from the object. Super macro will have no zoom feature, but will show unreal detail, the camera lens will be from 3 to 6 inches from the object. Also, all around lighting beats a flash, or a lamp. Flourescent lamps give good light for showing projects clearly. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:Stupid camera...    I set it on the "flower" setting, messed with the manual settings, messed with the auto settings, even broke out the dang tripod figuring maybe my hands werent holding it steady enough. I give up.This was the best I could do, The weld is pretty small and the camera refuses to focus any closer than 20 inches or so away zoom or no zoom. Made a slightly better shot of the "good" section Attached ImagesI like to party!
Reply:Captain, what welder do you have.  If you have pulse try another cube with it on.  The fuse weld will come out looking amazing.
Reply:I have a T/A 300, I didn't wanna cheat yet since I'm still learning so I didn't use the pulse.  I was just messing with different motions tonight. I wanna try one with pulse tomorrow, and then try one with filler. I'll guarantee I cant make it look anywhere near as cool if I use filler. Plus and when I do use the pulse its kinda a shot in the dark. I spend quite some time just fiddling with the settings till I find something that works nice. I'm not anywhere near smart enough to just turn it on and program it to work perfect without playing around for a while. I'm still a noob.I like to party!
Reply:Its a great cube.  Nice to have the time and material to mess around.  If you are going to try pulse, try 1/2 or 1/3 or 1/4  Background current/welding current.Start with 50% time and maybe 1 hz.  Go from there.  I don't use pulse much on the tig.David  Real world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:Nice little test project Willy. I hope to be getting my new tig soon and get some play time. What camera do you have.Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.
