new hose barb nipples?

I just got a gas saver and want to cut my 3/16" x  25' hose into two lengths, an 8' and a 17' length. The 17' will go between my tanks and the gas saver and the 8' between the gas saver and the torch. Has anyone out there put these hose barb nipples on a hose? I'm having a bear of a time getting these puppies on! Any tips, tricks, ideas or info appreciatedThanks,   Chuck
Reply:They are a pain!  Don't forget to put you Otiker rings on the hoses before assembly.  I have forgotten and had to cut the hose again and peel the rubber off the barbs.  It would not be wise to use any sort of lube especially with the oxy hose.
Reply:Well after enough frustration I called the welding supply I got the barbs from and found out they gave me the wrong size and that they do it for free if I bought the barbs from them. So much for knowledgeable counter guys!!!
