What is meant when one says "Laying down a layer of soot".  How do you do that? When do you do that? and why would you do that? Let's try it this way!!!! No, Really, It'll work...maybe.

Reply:If you have to bend or form aluminum one can remove the strength of the alloy by heating it with a torch.  It is difficult to determine temperature.  One way is to soot the surface then burn the soot off with a neutral flame.  The aluminum alloy can now be bend without cracking.
