For some strange reason she seems to be upset. I really dont understand why I cant have a few little oll tools in the laundry room. Well I Cant!!!!!These were just 3 brackets for shelfs (in the garage not the laundry ). Its just little 1 1/2 14 ga, but it should be plenty strong. LMAO this morning she said " ya dont see me stackin up baskets of clothes in your garage do ya!!!!" I did learn awhile back its best not to arguee!Note to self.......The jacket in the avatar pic is Not for welding....EVER

Reply:Actually I do paint most of what I weld. This is the garage LOL not the laundry and in order to build the shelfs I had to put even more stuff in the laundry. OH Boy then I heard (I really need to do laundry ) the next words were something like (fffffffffshhhhhhhhcrrrrrTOMMMMMMMMMM!!! ) you probally get the point. So no I didnt paint it.This is what I have started using to remove rust and scale prior to welding with mig.The one that I use is made to fit the 4 1/2 " grinder. For what I do it works much better then a flap disc and after the weld it works really good for lite polishing and cleaning up the corners. I'm courious about the giant steel power poles. I have been told that the reason they are rusty looking is that they are rusty. Something to the effect of the metal rust faster after its painted then if its left bare. Reply:Tom,Check the RPM rating on those Norton discs.  I don't think they are rated as fast as a typical grinder spins.    They are made to spin with a drill.Decent outside steel that isn't painted and has a fine tight rust surface is usually made with a weathering steel like CorTen or such.  The surface rusts, but the rust doesn't flake off or continue eating right through the steel like most 'regular' steel rust does.  Usually.  If partially painted, the unpainted area mayl rust pretty much like regular steel.  See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weathering_steel for some more info
Reply:Thank You for the concern about the wheel. I am using the wheel thats made for the angle grinder with a rpm of 11,ooo. Coming off the grinder would make for an unhandy afternoon.Note to self.......The jacket in the avatar pic is Not for welding....EVER

Reply:I belive the ancors will be the limiting factor for weight. If I remember correctly the 3/8X3 1/2 wedge type have near a 600 lb pull out rating. The tubing is 1/8" and bending after the point if the brace is where my fear would be. With that said I think I could load 1000 to 1500 lbs per 3 brackets that have 3 2X12's for shelving without worries.Note to self.......The jacket in the avatar pic is Not for welding....EVER
