I am an aspiring welder.I want to learn how to weld so i may start welding pedicabs out of steel. What classes should I take? My local community college has these courses available. http://www6.austincc.edu/schedule/in...&yr=2011&ct=CCThank you so much for your advice, and I look forward to getting very involved here once I have something worthwhile to contribute.
Reply:depending on what you want to make them out off i would take the GMAW intro class. welcome to the forum BTW_______________________OF COURSE I DON'T LOOK BUSY... I DID IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME
Reply:Start with WELDING 1425 introduction to oxy/fuel welding. That is where most welding schools start. They teach how to turn on and shut down a pressurized tank. The correct way. They teach you how to bleed a regulator and other general safety rules. They teach you basic things that you will always need to know no matter which welding machine you choose to work with on your project. The second class to take is SMAW or stick welding. Then take MIG welding (GMAW).Then take TIG welding (GTAW).Take a beginning class on plasma cutting too.By then you will know more about which direction you would like to go and you have had a chance to talk to instructors about your project. They may help you start your project.Last edited by Donald Branscom; 01-27-2011 at 03:08 PM.Reason: spellingAWS certified welding inspectorAWS certified welder
Reply:If you are serious about producing a safe product........WLDG 1425 Introduction to Oxy-Fuel Welding and CuttingWLDG 1430 Introduction to Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)WLDG 1434 Introduction to Gas Tungsten Arc (GTAW) WeldingWLDG 1417 Introduction to Layout and FabricationWLDG 1453 Intermediate Layout and Fabrication (Structural Connections)26261 - Tool Making. Student should complete WLDG 2441 before taking this course.26259 - Applied Metals DesignAll of the above, roughly in that order, and a good deal of practical work time. Then, maybe, you'll be ready to tackle a pedi-cab. Not just a matter of picking up a MIG squirt gun and gluing some tubes together. Hauling 600 lbs of Floridian tourist around town ain't no small task!!!!This falls under the same idea of building a utility trailer as your first project. Do you want to drive behind it, loaded on the freeway????200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack. |
