Here is my fork lift almost finished.  I need to put a couple of notches in the top plate for the fork locks and prime and paint (do forks usually get painted?)  As usual I used my Miller Swinger 180AC and 6011 and 6013.  I used a ton of rod, 3 passes on each edge of the 3/8" plate w/6011 130-140amps.I was going to add further bracing, but after looking at different 3 pnt versions out there I think mine will be plenty strong enough.  It is also already heavy w/the forks so I didn't want to have to wrestle a 500 lb beast around.  I plan to use it to move my mower, disk, plow,etc.. and maybe make a couple of pallet based wood haulers/carry alls.
Reply:Looks real good to me. Wish I could turn my head far enough to use something like that. I just bought a tractor with a quick detach FEL. I may steal your idea for a set of forks for the front of the tractor where I can see what I'm doing.
Reply:Nice Job!!!!!You could paint the framework and just spray bomb the forks. I am currently building a 3 pt dethatcher for my JD. Hope I can get around to building my bucket forksDanMy instructor said someone will catch on fire during class...He wasn't joking!!
Reply:VERY NICE! You might put a stop at each end of the carriage. Without a stop; On rough terrain, a fork can easily unlatch and walk off the end of a carriage. If the carriage is ever used for heavier loads, you'll have to think about "the twist" between the fork heel, and the tilt linkage; at the top horizontal tube. For your intended loads, it wouldn't be an issueGLwelder, you sure built a nice clean simple design.Good Luck

Reply:Orange. Wish it had been Allis-Chalmers orange as I grew up on them and still have a soft spot for them. O-well, times change.
Reply:Can You Please Send Me A Copy Of The Plans. It Seems Like A Idea I Could Use.
Reply:Originally Posted by GLwelder Thanks Dan,   what is spray bombing?   Sounds like you also have FEL?  The only loaders I have seen for my old tractor look difficult to mount and unmount.  I would love to have a quick attach model but don't know if there is such a thing for a '57 ford and even if there is I don't have the $3-4,000 it probably would cost.
