Yesterday I scored pretty good when I bought this for $20.That's a 3'x3' piece of 1.25" plate. I picked up this swivel base a while back from a buddy. I have no idea what it was built for, but I can tell you that it was BUILT. Those legs are 1.25" solid bar, the horizontal braces are 3"x.25". The top and gussets are 1/2". You can see the tube pointing down from the center that the bearings and 1" shaft ride in. Notice the 1/2" plate directly above the top of the base, the little gap is there because there is a 2" diameter .25" thick brass bushing between them. This is really convenient bcause it lets me attach my work clamp to one of the legs without welding the bearings together. .The thing spins soooo smooth! Even with that heavy arsed table top I can spin it 720 degrees with the push of one finger. This is a really nice feature to me. I don't have much room in the shop, the swivel top lets me easily work from any side of table. I don't even have to get off my stool!Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:Gimini cupcakes!!!  Did you ever score! Good job.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:I forgot to mention, All of this 1"x1/2" flat bar, and 1/2" square stock was part of that $20 deal too.  I never get lucky like this. Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:Nice score indeed !  Just use some caution. I have worked with roadplate all my life, this stuff is heavy! a tipover while welding with a helmet on on not seeing it coming could take a foot off or snap a leg like a twig.  I am envious with the swivel part ... it's sweet ! I hope you enjoy it. Heck I'd put a beer bracket on on corner and a coffee holder on the other depending on the time of day.
Reply:The table is alot more stable than it looks. I tried to tip it, it takes about all I've got to get a leg off the floor. But yeah, a plate like that ain't nothing to fool around with. Damn heavy stuff.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:Awesome deal I never get that lucky, well once a couple years ago I got a 316ss table top 3ft x 6ft. How many friends did you have to get to help carry that? It's not what you can buy, it's what you can build that matters
Reply:Good score! You also have a good start for a rotator/positioner!Why the long tube in the center? Are there two bearings in the tube; or is the height adjustable?Good luckps -  Be careful with sparks around that wood and paper!
Reply:JohnH:If you could score a reduction gear and motor-drive you could make this into one great positioner table as well.......Good luck with it.Sign on East Texas payphone: Calls to God 40 cents......it's a local call...
Reply:I had one buddy help me move it about 100ft to the truck. We didn't carry it though, rolled it like a square wheel. There must be two (or more?) bearings in there. The tabletop doesn't have even the tiniest bit of play vertically. I wonder what that base is from, anyone ever seen one like that? It's built like a machine tool almost.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
Reply:good table... for the priceUnit in my fab shop dept:my good hand and team that trust me...A lone welder make art... a village full of welder make Miracles...
Reply:Yes, it's heavy. Round it off at 50# a square foot X 9. Gives me a backache just thinking about it.
Reply:You are dead on about the weight. I just found a weight calculator here :http://www.steelforge.com/steelweights.htm459lbs! I didn't think it was THAT heavy. I'm glad I didn't know the weight until now, moving it would have been harder. I guessed around 275-300lbs. Now I feel like superman. A buddy and I got it to my shop, the only time we lifted it was to put it on the table base. We probably wouldn't have tried if we had known it weighed that much. That's over 100lbs more than our weights combined.Miller EconotigCutmaster 38Yes ma'am, that IS a screwdriver in my pocket!
