They came back for the last step. Tubes in, rolled and pressure tested. 7 leaks out of 45 pieces. I fixed em with the tig. (arcmaster 185). NO stinkin dimes!OverheadPulsed spray mig, 300ipm, 98/2 .030 wire.
Reply:Is that a threaded hole? Does the weld protrude past the thread? It looks like it from my angle.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:That tube was used to pressure test the unit. Its no longer needed. The flanges will be milled and probably drilled and tapped. Here is on of the leaks.David

Reply:Looks good Dave. The first exchanger I built was a sea water chiller for a tuna boat. It had a Titanium core. I did this in New Mexico (can you say desert, lol) and then it was shipped to Maine if I remember correctly. We built or repaired stuff from all over the country and occasionally overseas. The fellow that owned the company came out there after WWII ended. He was a boilermaker in the Houma, LA shipyards during the war. Probably the only shop I ever worked in where we had every tool we needed to do the job. All top of the line and a room full of spares in case one gave up. Also the only shop I ever worked in where certified welders didn't swing sledge hammers and if he caught someone else watching one of them swing one he would run them off. He claimed it was an incentive for them to learn valuable job skills, lol. The only place I ever worked where everyone wanted to learn to be a welder and get certified. The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. I am an artist. |
