I am about to order a New Vantage 400 here in the next few days. Most all of the work I will be doing with it will be 200 amps or under and I rarely burn anything larger than 5/32. I am thinking I will go with 200' of 2/0 (100' on each side). I am also thinking I will splice in about '20 of #1 for a stinger whip. As mentioned previously I will rarely be using the machine to even close of its capacity. How does this setup sound to everybody else before I spend all that coin on leads?
Reply:sounds about right maybe a little on the big side, but bigger is better. Here's a great place to get cables. Called http://www.trystar.com/check out this thread http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=48581Pound to fit, paint to match
Reply:Thats exctly where I planned on ordering them fromAnd I was actually thinking 2/0 might be too small, I know it's big heavy cable and as I said I will be mostly be working at 200 amps or lower, but I might need the extra output on occasion. But then again, the thought of rolling up 200 feet of 3/0 isn't exactly appealing...
Reply:You will be crying rolling up that 2/0 every day. 100' of 1/0 with 15' of 1/0 ultraflex whip on a twistlock connector will work for you just fine. I run 165' of 1/0 leads on my tidweld reels. I burn 5/32 at 185 to 225 daily with them and never had them get hot, even when I have had 100' still wound up on the reel. I have 200' of 2/0 and it stays hanging in the shop.Lincoln 300 Vantage 2008300 Commander 1999SA250 1999SA200 1968Miller Syncrowave 200XMT350MPA/S-52E/xr-15Xtreme 12vs Millermatic 251 w/30A Millermatic 251 Dialarc 250 Hypertherm 1250 GEKA & Bantom Ironwokers |
