i didn't want to "cross-link" to the mzone forum, so here is an exact copy of what i put over there.so i have been finally getting some time to play in the shop, so i can justify the cost of a few toys. one of them was a bandsaw (see my other post), the other was a ***-load of steel. well, in order to make my work a little more productive, i decided to make a few little helpers out of the extra steel that i got. on of which was a cart. it is far from finished, as i have many MANY ideas for add-ons. anyway, here's a few pics. feel free to ask questions and critique as you feel is needed. one thing that i must say however is for any newbies out there (such as myself), make sure you take weight into consideration. this thing is so top-heavy that it isn't even funny. i plan on loading it up pretty well, so i don;t think that it will be much of a problem, but just a thought for anyone else that is thinking about making one of these... anyway... back to the pics.please note that the angle iron on this particular side has been angled down, in order to accomodate the access door. this way, i do not have to lift the welder every time i need to get in there to swap wire or anything.after i got the base welded together, i ground down the welds in order to make is easier to line up and fit together the legs/supports for the frame.after tacking the sucker together, i made sure all was square and ran full beads around the tubes. some look like this:a few others weren't so nice, but i ground them down anyway, so i wasn't too concerned about appearance. here is 1x1x16 ga square tube welded to 1.25 x 1.25 x 3/16 angle stock.it wasn't too pretty, but #1, it's where no one will see it or pay attention to it (right under the back of the welder), and #2, even if they do notice it, it's plenty strong and i can kick them out of my shop. loli also have welded 4 full-swivel casters to the bottom with 100-lb capacity each. if i ever load this thing past 200, i'd be very surprised. a few things i plan on doing to it is obviously add a couple hooks, close in the bottom with some 16 ga sheet metal and 1x1/8" stap for reinforcement, and possibly a shelf or two. anyway, i think i have done enough typing for now. like i said, feel free to post comments, questions, or critiques.Later,Andy
Reply:I like new friggin' carts !! Ya, don't link we don't want any of the hoodlums from here coming over there. John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:My only question is will you fasten the welder to the cart, so when it gets knocked over, the welder stays with the cart, or will you just set it on top so when it eventually flops on its side the welder goes its separate way? Justify whichever choice you make.

Reply:have learned it is much much better to let them fall seperately, that way whichever piece is closest to you you can kick just it and not both at once, may result in smaller injury to kicking foot.
Reply:Personally, I would put some wheelie bars on it and it can be a dragster cart. John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:If you weld a tube, angle, or channel accross the bottom of the frame on each end, wider than the cart, you can mount the wheels to those, more outboard of the cart and keep it from toppling over. I like the turned-down angle on the door side. Good thinking .Where's the gas bottle mount?MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op

Reply:I built one about like that except with 10" wheels on the back so I could roll it outside easily. So far I've managed to keep from turning it over.
Reply:Nice cart, but definitely easy to turn over.Oldtimer - I haven't been so lucky. Didn't know that did you. I caught it before anything hit the ground but it definitely needs training wheels. I have my inverter/wire feeder cart complete with water cooling unit beyond the planning stage, but far from finished. Can't turn down the paying work for the non-paying. Right now it is just the inverter on top of the cooler so I can move it around and don't have to get on the floor to adjust it, lol.The difference between art and craft is the quality of the workmanship. Reply:Well, I kinda agree with Mr. SundownIII here,,,,, I don't know about anybody else here, but I sure don't have enough money to be sticking expensive machines on obviously top-heavy and unstable fabrications ..... I'd rather just just use the thoughtfully provided carry-handle on top, and set it on the floor. No comments needed about the "welds" ...
Reply:well, as long as we have someone to show welds that need to be critiqued, then i guess we are good. what about them is wrong? would you like to elaborate on a possible way or two in order to better my skills? possibly something more than "your welds suck" would help this board turn into something more than another pissing match.Later,Andy
