This cold weather has got me thinking about buying a pair of coveralls, something I can easily shed when I go inside, and easily put back on when I go to the shop.  (My shop is my attached garage).I have always been told to avoid synthetics around fire, welding, etc., which I am sure is a good rule.  In this season, I use jeans, cotton T-shirts and sweatshirts, and wool long underwear.Carhart coveralls all have a synthetic lining, as far as I can tell from the Carhartt website.I noticed that Amazon had a no-name welding coverall, fire retardant cotton.  Seemed to have more outside pockets than I would prefer.  Hard to tell if those are thin material or more substantial.I own a pair of coveralls, but they are pretty thin material.I would be happy with a coverall of thick cotton without any synthetics at all.I did search the forums, but mostly saw "buy Carhartt" and "100% cotton".Suggestions?RichardSculptures in copper and other metalshttp://www.fergusonsculpture.comSyncrowave 200 Millermatic 211Readywelder spoolgunHypertherm 600 plasma cutterThermal Arc GMS300 Victor OA torchHomemade Blacksmith propane forge
Reply:I like carhartt insulated overalls and a jacket for really cold days.Very warm! I found putting coveralls on and off is a pain. When I get in the truck or go inside,I can just take the jacket off.I've only welded in them a few times but have seen weldors wearing the same.Miller a/c-d/c Thunderbolt XLMillermatic 180 Purox O/ASmith Littletorch O/AHobart Champion Elite
Reply:100% cotton carhart bibs for me. as far as fire  they will burn but i usually get two years or so out of mine. i also dont take them off once i put them on for the day, but zipper hips are nice when you do want to get them off.kwMM 251MM 135Lincoln Pro cut 55Bobcat 250Miller Thunderbolt ac/dcolder ac forneyJackson nexgen 3n13-Smith OP setups97 Dodge dieselMakita chopsawJet swivel head bandsawlincoln tig 300/30030a spoolgunpuma port. gas air comp.
Reply:Carhart bibs and a jacket here.  Bibs stay on all day. They are easy to take off if I need to.  Don't worry about the synthetic lining.  If  sparks or fire get that far, you're in trouble anyway. My name's not Jim....
Reply:Carhartt and many winter jackets have synthetic linings, but lets face it, if the jacket burns so severely that you burn thru the cover and the insulation to set the liner on fire.. You were going to get crispy anyways. FWIW, my "Fireproof" NOMEX flight jackets (and leather jacket too) have synthetic liners. Theory is if it burns through NOMEX, you were f'ed anyways.E-2C Hummer PilotLincoln IDEALARC 300/300 TIG Welder Lincoln AC/DC 225/125 BuzzboxLincoln Weld-Pak 155 MIGForney (Harris Style) TorchesoooooOoooooWhen in doubt.. Reply:They have unlined Carhartt overalls that you can buy also.  They don't have the insulation and are a heavier material than regular denim so they should provide more warmth than just jeans.
Reply:Carhart too. I find a black turtle neck is good too.200amp Air Liquide MIG, Hypertherm Plasma, Harris torches, Optrel helmet, Makita angle grinders, Pre-China Delta chop saw and belt sander, Miller leathers, shop made jigs etc, North- welders backpack.

Reply:I went looking for something warmer over the holidays, and I found some 100% cotton sweatshirts that have no cuffs, no collars. They fit just fine under either a cotton lab-jacket or leathers. Layers are always a good way to regulate heat. But I also found a 100% cotton long-sleeved and insulated shirt from Carhartt on the rack at the Local "Boot Barn". Those were made in Bangladesh if it matters. I can not, however, find that exact shirt on the Carhartt website.City of L.A. Reply:I use the Key Polar King insulated bibs. They're a little cheaper than the Carhartts and the quality seems to be just as good. The hip zippers are definately the way to go if you're going to be taking them off and putting them back on much....makes it easy to get them on over your work boots.'04 Trailblazer 301GHobart 135Victor O/A
Reply:Just about any decent quality cotton coveralls are good. The key to coveralls is to buy them a size too big.  DON'T LAUGHKeeping warm is all about layers.  Bigger coveralls allow you to put on extra clothing underneath.I see guys in the fruity form fitting coveralls, or bibs, and I just motor on by.  I'm pretty sure I'm warmer than they are with my baggies and a coat, hoodie, flannel shirt, and thermal, underneathI suppose I gotta add a caveat..................The fat boys do just fine in tight coveralls, they got enough insulation they could probably go nekkkid, and not feel the effects of the cold  Case on point..........saw a 300lb ol' gal go into Wal Mart the other day (temp around 15) wearin' shorts and flip flops, and she looked sorta sweaty"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:im real happy with my big smith bib overalls..heavy polyester  insulation under a cotton shell..good ol tractor supply..

Reply:I find Big Smith overalls have a problem with  the buttons falling off the bib top.Only brand that does it.
