I found this rig on CL I was wondering if the welder is worth me messing with..http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/cto/2225273647.html
Reply:Hard to believe only 13,000 miles with the interior looking like it does. Check the hour meter on the welder. I think it will be a fine stick welder, plus you have the generator and utility body. In my opinion, it is a little steep on the price. But then again, I'm a cheap sob. If you are looking for a stick welder, there are plenty of units out there. If you can use it, pursue it.
Reply:Is that a former military vehicle.    I really doubt it only has 12K miles.   On the old chevy's they didnt have million mile odometers.   Only 100,000.  Do you need the truck too or are you just looking for a good welder?“I'm going to do the thing that God put Galen Beasley on this Earth to do:Have Salon quality hair and weld.Nothing like a good cup of coffee and the smell of 6010 burning in the morning. 971-204-3444 cell API ASME Structural NDT and Repair
Reply:I dont really need the truck.. I just like the utility body and the fact its 4x4...  I was gonna see if they would take like $3000.. Im just not sure if the welder is a good machine or not.. is it only a stick welder or can I tig with it too...?
Reply:Some of that old military stuff is hard to find parts for.
Reply:Thats an M1031 commonly called a "contact truck" I have welded off them and if i remember its stick only. I could be wrong as there was many different setups on these. As for the mileage, if it belonged to a national guard or reserve unit the miles could be correct, as it probably spent much of its life sitting in a motor pool somewhere. Parts can still be found for them, I think NAPA used to carry alot of stuff. For the most part it is a 3/4 ton GM pickup 6.2 diesel. The electric system on the other hand could be a nightmare. It was kinda a 12v 24v hybrid. With most of the charging/engine system being 24v and the body being 12v.
