Hello, I recently purchased an old Miller Dialarc HF Tig Welder off of ebay. I need to get some new parts for the torch, but I dont know what kind it is. I know that it is air cooled, but there are no brand or model markings on it. Is there an easy way to identify what it is so that I can get collets, lenses, backcaps, etc for it?

Reply:Post a picture. I'll bet it's a 17.
Reply:Yep, I bet it's a 17 also. You should be able to carry the whole torch to a local welding supply company and match it up, but a 17 is supposed handle up to 150 amps. If it looks fairly well used, it probably predates newer high-amp (200-300 amp) models. It wasnt too long ago that a 17 was about the highest amp air cooled torch you could get. Can you disassemble the handle? Sometimes there is a model number on the inside.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:Yep, the joys of second hand equipment! My Syncrowave came with an ESAB torch.

Reply:I am almost sure that is a 17. I will post a pic of spare parts I have and you can match them up to yours. Looks like its using a nozzle for a 9, but they sell the collet bodies to use these parts, just need a new insulator.
Reply:Sorry it took me a couple of days to snap some pics. I haven't been home, but still had access to a computer. Anyway, here is the pic of a spare 17 torch I have and the collet body and collet for use with 9 torch nozzles. I don't remember what the insulators are for, but one is used with the 9 collet body part. Hope this helps.Last edited by orphan68; 08-31-2006 at 12:05 AM. |
