Some pics for the gang.Doors for a commercial laundry each washer has three bays about 65" in diameter and 36" wide. The door is about 36"X36" Attached Images
Reply:I weld the back side first helps me find all the cracks as the edges will show up as different shades of blue because the crack interferes with the heat transfer. Attached Images
Reply:I forgot to mention I soak the parts in a huge vat a acetone for three weeks then brush them with a sterile stainless steel twisted and knotted 4.5" 5/8"11 wire brush that I had previously taken the the archbishop who blessed it with water and prayed for three days. Then it was back to the acetone with the door for another quick dunk.  Also be sure to use Tillman 25b gloves and 1/8" gold tungsten and Miller Elite set at shade 11 Then I call zippy dippy zappy dooo and ask for forgiveness of my welding soul. Reply:Really nice welds for sure.  And acetone is $$$.  I take it that was to clean it up.  I use denatured-alcohol here, but more for paint, body work and general cleaning.  Will remember that if I get a real welding project like that.Far as the humor, I did not pay much attention, but it was nice that he put a dime there for reference. And as to the worlds greatest, well, in my world compared to me, that he would be the case    But there is always someone coming up to knock the greatest off the thrown.   Will not be me though.
Reply:I saw the humor, thought it was funny, not nessaccarily a jab.Tim Beeker.
Reply:I didn't know there was any underlying conflict, and "from the outside looking in" didn't see any jab at anybody, or any ill attitude in the original post.  The lap joint tacks look pretty nice.  Of course the crack welds aren't all that consistent, but I've welded stuff like that before...and I know th reality of it.  Arc wander on this stuff can be impossible to control at times.  The welds are just fine, and look solid to me.
Reply:Engloid has a good point. If I had to weld something on the kids ATV, bike, go-kart, etc, I want it to be pretty (ain't happening right now unless with Oxy/Acet, but as long as they are "SOLID".But to my eyes they look very nice to me.  Can not wait to get my argon regulator and see if it really is like Oxy.
Reply:OK, I am confused. Was it a joke that you soaked it in a vat of acetone? Because I tryed that once, but there must of been a leak because the next day the acetone was all gone. Boy my boss was mad, it was 15 gallons of acetone. That stuff is expensive, I an trying to get the boss to buy it in bulk. 250 gallon totes, or possibly a larger tank that we have refilled. Hope it doesn't have a leak also.
Reply:I, too, was laffin' cause I can relate. I pray when I weld too. Reply:OK, just re-read the 3rd post.  flipping funny now. 3 weeks to soak it (whs it from a Mc Donalds french frier?), the "sterile" SS brush that was "twisted and knotted" (what gauge wire?).  I was so busy looking at the nice welds I missed the funny part.I should pray before I weld.  For safety AND a NICE weld.  Safe first though. Also all my acetone is in air tight metal containers, so I am sure I am missing none. haha.

Reply:Originally Posted by DSWI'll take it you are serious compared to some others in this post.  Acetone has a very high evaporation rate. It may have "leaked" out the top if it was just exposed to air.

Reply:I didn't really pay attention to the humor either. I'm here to learn! I can't have this constant bickering! I have a couple of questions though worldsgreatestwelder. Just wondering, what would cause cracks like that? Also, what process(es) did you use? The first pics look like MIG and the pics in post #3 look like TIG. Reply:Hello Zap, never met another Steve Recchia (other than my grandpa), this explains a lot, I thought you caught me on my tall tail on using acetone, anyone that uses it should look at the MSDS, that stuff is bad, respirator and gloves and apron just for a little less rubbing with a brush, not worth it to me. As far as someone calling me a troll, sorry I am not that short and ugly looking.

Reply:zap you have been a member for 2 1/2 years and have over 8000 posts how do you find time to weld when you spend so much time on the internet????
Reply:I might want to be zap!  The car and the welding equipment alone..  Just need to see the house and TV size's (HD?).  And the bills that come with it.On the acetone, women live 10 years longer than men and breathe it all the time to keep their nails nice.  So I would not worry too much about that.  Of course they do not have welders and fast cars.  Some do not work all day to pay for their acetone..  I could be wrong.
