Anybody got any plans/ideas for a "stand off" or "roller" guide for thier plasma torch?  Seems like it'd be easy enough to figure something out, but is there some hidden secret to an effective outcome?  If you got pic's post em up!Cant shake this bug of wanting to mince steel.ThermalArc 185MillerMatic 180 w/ AutosetVictor Cutskill Oxy/AcetyleneThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38and spite!
Reply:Hey DLS,I have several roller guide systems for our plasma cutter I designed and use where I work. They are quite simple to fabricate and work very well. We do a lot of cutting and resizing at work and I needed to setup very quick & efficient cutting methods. I will take some photos next week and post them if time allows as we are buried presently....DennyComplete Welding/Machine/Fab. Reply:I messed around with shop made guides, but in the end I just bought the one from Miller and got back to work. I think it was about $40?Man invented metal, he can do whatever he wants with it.KMAC
Reply:I'd like to see some home made designs. The Miller roll guides are $25 or $27 on eBay from IOC i seem to remember. I just use the stand-off tips, they are only 4 or 5 dollars.John -  fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!-  bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:How adaptable are the Miller roller guides?  Would they fit other brands? Is there any particular qualities that one should look for with these?  Anything anyone can think of to improve?ThermalArc 185MillerMatic 180 w/ AutosetVictor Cutskill Oxy/AcetyleneThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38and spite!
Reply:Seems like a pizza cutter could be re-arranged and make a decent stand-off roller.
Reply:Yeah, it also seems like an old Tonka truck could be a good choice!I dont want to commit a welding faux pas, but also dont want to be a drone.  Heck, some of my best tools are what some call "interesting"!ThermalArc 185MillerMatic 180 w/ AutosetVictor Cutskill Oxy/AcetyleneThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38and spite!
Reply:It's welding, do whatever works and post the pictures here. Only problem I see with the Tonka idea is I beleive they have plastic wheels wich could pose a problem.
Reply:my only complaint with the miller stand off guide is its realy only efective in strait or fairly strait lines, sweeping curves are ok but any sharp turns can be a bummer as its not to hot on side to side movement. i have not used mine too much. mostly i just use the drag tip or just hold it off the work by hand.i have doon some prity intricet designs just freehanding it.i'll dig up a pic.found one of my tail gat first build.cut the ladies and the POW*MIA plack with my lil plasma freehand. Reply:The Miller guide fits onto the contact tip retainer. If you have a thermal dynamics they might be different sizes. It's nice to have independant height adjustment on the rollers to get optimum standoff and angle of cut. Roller wheels should be about an inch in dia.Man invented metal, he can do whatever he wants with it.KMAC
Reply:my guide came with a resizing ring so it would fit diferent sized torches i would think if it didnt fit his it would be easy enough to adapt it to do so. summer is here, plant a tree for mother earth. if you dont have time or space, sponcer some one else to plant one for you.feel free to shoot me a PM or e-mail me at [email][email protected] i got lots of time.
