Or can it be used on stainless steel or mild steel also?Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:I may be wrong, But I have never used a spool gun for anything else but aluminumBut I cant see why It could not be used with other wires
Reply:They make the spools for other wires, just change gasses. good for small jobs if you don't want to buy a whole lot of wire just to have it set."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251   Syncrowave 300   30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200   1 short hood    SA250    SAM 400
Reply:Spool guns can be used for just about any wire - if you can find the right tip.  Aluminum expands more so when find a tip for .035 aluminum, it may actually be .040.  The version for steel wire would be less.As for drive rolls, The ones in my 30A are knurled and mark up the aluminum wire pretty good.  I guess the run is so short it doesn't matter.  I would suspect you can use the same rollers on steel wire.Remember for MIG welding, its voltage control and wire speed.  Period.  End of story.Grab the user's manual for your wire feeder and it will (should?) outline what parts are available for different wires.Note: aluminum is a spray transfer process and the standard tips are 'recessed' typically.  Not necessarily what you want for short arc.Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
Reply:You can use it for whatever you want.gets a bit heavy with 2lb roll of Steel wire in it thoughthe other concern is that if you use it for steel it may leave bits on the rollers that could contaminate the Al wire when you go to weld Aloominum.Ed Conleyhttp://www.screamingbroccoli.com/MM252MM211 (Sold)Passport Plus & Spool gunLincoln SP135 Plus- (Gone to a good home)Klutch 120v Plasma cutterSO 2020 benderBeer in the fridge
Reply:Why would anyone want to lug a spoolgun around if you don't need it?

Reply:Because there are places (trailer beds, on boats, up a ladder, etc) that a 30' reach will work, whereas a 15' whip won't cut it.Same advantages apply to a suitcase feeder, but they won't work with a self contained unit such as the MM212, 251,251.  Miller now has the "Reach" feeder which will work with the units mentioned previously.Last edited by SundownIII; 03-09-2011 at 11:59 PM.Syncro 250 DX Dynasty 200 DXMM 251 w/30A SG XMT 304 w/714 Feeder & Optima PulserHH187Dialarc 250 AC/DCHypertherm PM 1250Smith, Harris, Victor O/ASmith and Thermco Gas MixersAccess to a full fab shop with CNC Plasma, Water Jet, etc.
Reply:I don't think the lincoln sg100 will work with anything other than Al. Pretty sure you would have feed issues since there is no way to adjust feed tension.
